It's shown in the series to the movies which i highly recommend! Theres two separate ones, the first show is right after the first movie where we're shown how the vikings must adjust to living with dragons and they have to confront former allies as they dont agree with the new lifestyle. Then the second show is right before the second movie so you'll see so many other sides of Stoick if you choose to watch it! This series is all about exploring the world and discovering new dragons! You can see Hiccup build his map in real time :) the shows are called Riders/Defenders of Berk (Prime) and Dragons: Race to the Edge! (Netflix) if you want to watch it! I highly recommend it, you'll get to know more about the 6 main characters of Hiccup's group as well as all the dragons mentioned in the book from the first movie
