The sense of smell thing was shown in episode 1 but it was with Bongseok, not Mihyun lol. It was when he was in bed and listening to his mom cooking in the kitchen and also smelling the food. The writer, Kang Full, also mentioned that Mihyun could've easily made her restaurant gain Michelin stars because of her super senses but chooses not to because she just wants to keep themselves hidden. She makes her food good enough so that her business can stay afloat but when she cooks for her son, it's Michelin quality dishes. That's why she told Bongseok she would make him a new dish back in episode 7 after the Frank scare. It wasn't really explained in the webtoon or the drama but I imagine Mihyun and Bongseok might have some control over their senses since they seem to have the need to focus when using one of them.
