This is probably the hottest one of this year in my opinion. (I've gotten off to this one A-LOT) there are so many interesting scenarios of how that scene came to be. How did the balls wind up there? Was it force, desperation, fear, a selfless and calculated sacrifice to save one's captured family, or marital betrayal and selfishness?
It's also hot that that kind of culture actually existed, where rulers required castration as a token of commitment from even high ranking servants.... as well as from the captured... I like thinking how many men were regularly castrated against their will back then. What it would feel like to actually live those scenarios. How i would respond. Or if I were the king, would I savor the absolute dominance

I think it's crazy reading about the Chinese system where thousands volunteered. Families regularly chose this for their later born sons. Thinking of how only the emperor benefits, but had normalized the need for castrated servants to the extent boys and even their parents voluntarily participated in mass. That's the most fascinating and exciting scenario. To get someone to willingly be castrated for me and have convinced the society this is right.
