Dogg Zzone 9000 - Episode 169, Yesterday With Daniel O'Brien

Seanbaby got hit by a bus and woke up in a universe where he's the only one who gives a shit about the Beatles portal fantasy movie, Yesterday. He tries to explain it to Brockway and guest, Daniel O'Brien, but they just don't believe him!

It's so baffling that they take a premise like this, which has several promising avenues to interesting stories, and choose NONE of them. I'd like to read a story by an author well versed in music and pop culture history to explore the actual premise. What *would* our world be like without the Beatles? The hacky answer, that rock and roll would die and we'd all be listening to Pat Boone knockoffs or something, is clearly wrong, but what would happen?

I want to make it clear that I'm not a sheep and that I enjoyed Yesterday. Except for all the Ed Shireen parts, and the John Lennon scene. The LA parts were also a little lame. I guess I only really liked that one dumb friend that preferred Himesh Patel's original song over the Beatles. But not even a 5-part 12-hour round-table discussion featuring all the writers of America's Last Website will change my mind on how slightly amusing that one guy is.

DOB was a lot of fun, get him back soon!

You touched on something interesting with the discussion about how in real life people don't always know where their ideas come from- The song Yesterday was created whe Paul woke up one day with the melody so complete and vivid in his head that he was sure he had simply recalled it from hearing the song somewhere else. He played it incessantly for weeks to anyone who would listen (much to the annoyance of the other Beatles) to see if they reccognized it, until he decided it was his own. I feel like maybe they could've done something with this, like maybe he doesn't find success repeating Beatles songs until he finds the inspiration to make something original. But based on your discussion, it seems like they didn't really have anything interesting to say with this movie...

Indeed. When I got my brain injury, the universe was pretty much the same. Maybe because a bus wasn't involved.

I’m not the first to mention that the premise of Yesterday would make for a decent episode of the Twilight Zone or a similar show
