Podcasting Day: Streets of Fire with Rusty Shackles 🌭

This week we’re talking with artist, beat ‘em up game expert, and general roving brawler Rusty Shackles about one of the best movies ever made: Streets of Fire. Released in 1984 and directed by notorious local lunatic Walter Hill, Streets of Fire is one of those movies with the perfect template: An injustice is done, man beats up entire town. That’s it! That’s all you need! It stars everybody, there’s too many to list, but notably there’s…

A young and weirdly fulla’ beans Rick Moranis in his iconic checkered suit (lil’ bowtie not included).

There’s a young Willam Dafoe, looking piscine and gorgeous in his rubber overalls (other clothing not included).

Young Bill Paxton is in effect with his pompadour and gaptoothed smile just begging to be punched in the face.

There’s tarp!

(Not included.)

And of course who could forget our charismatic leading man, Mickey Pears!

And at least five more! We loved this movie so much that it got a little awkward, and we’d apologize for it but that’s what the musical bonus episode is for.

Wanted to recommend the band Protomen's album Act II: Father Of Death. They made a rock opera about Mega Man in the musical, and cover art, style of Streets Of Fire.

The Five Nights at Freddy's/Night Trap comparison is interesting. They're pretty awful games, although at least Five Nights is borderline interactive, but they both really shine in the Let's Play era because they make good content. By the time kids actually play either of them they're already invested enough that they can gloss straight over the gameplay and just enjoy the meme aspects. It's almost the modern version of loving a terrible cartoon because the toys kicked so much ass.

Ha ha, even if not warned I could have picked this as a Steinman jam within 30 seconds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkujIQkn1ns

Sean's response to the closing theme is exactly the same as my reaction the first time I heard Céline Dion's "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" - ha ha, wtf, that sounds just like a Jim Steinman jam. AND THERE TURNED OUT TO BE A GOOD REASON FOR THAT

Mickey Pears looking like Bill Pullman is really adding a new dimension to the Paxulltoman befuddlery.
