What did you think of this movie??

Hey Evie, Bruce Willis himself said in an interview that Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie, but everyone has their opinion. I never really think of it as a Christmas movie like Elf, The Santa Clause, Home Alone and movies like that. I think of it as an action movie. I know people have very strong opinions, but ehhh… either way for me. The “Nakatomi Building” is part of 20th Century Fox studios and is right next to the studio backlot. My aunt was a paralegal for the studio and she worked in that building. The architecture of the building is very distinct and is very easy to recognize. Some of the floors are the legal department for the studio. It’s weird watching it knowing that I’ve been In that area where the cars drive around to the entrance and on the floor where my aunt worked, they had large movie displays that you’d see at a movie theatre from some of their more famous movies. She even gave me a giant X-Files cardboard display that I had in my apartment when I was in my 20’s lol. Evie, you asked what “Yippee-Ki-Yay” meant. It is a term that cowboys used in the old west. It’s similar to saying Yippee, Yahoo or Whoopee in excitement. It was also used to startle an opponent. In Die Hard, Hans (Alan Rickman) is talking to John McClane (Bruce Willis) on the walkie talkie about being a cowboy like the actor John Wayne and John tells Hans that he prefers Roy Rogers who was another famous cowboy actor who appeared in many Western movies from the 1930’s to the 1950’s that is why he called himself Roy in the movie. “Yippee Ki Yay MF” is one of the most iconic lines from a movie. You may have heard others say that in different movies or shows. In the scene where we see Hans face as he falls from the window, they had Alan Rickman in a harness with wires and lowered him quickly about 25 feet onto a giant inflatable bag that stuntmen use. Alan Rickman was nervous and they purposely released his harness a few seconds sooner than he expected, so the expression on his face is real. I lived about 30 minutes from that building and I remember when they were filming the movie, a lot of people who lived In Century City, where the building is located, complained about the noise because all the exterior shots and explosions were at night. Great reaction Evie! I hope you watch Love Actually, I think you’d like it.

2022-12-10 15:28:53 +0000 UTCThis was a fabulous reaction. So much fun! I never really consider Die Hard to be a Christmas movie either, but that's fine, cause then I get to enjoy it any time of year! 😁 One thing that a lot of people don't realize is that, Die Hard was one of the first movies in this style of action/comedy movie. And John McLane was a very different kind of action hero. He wasn't anything special, not Rambo, or an Arnold Schwarzenegger style superhero; he was just a guy who ended up in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Also, Bruce Willis was, in fact NOT an action hero at all. Up until this point he was only known for being on a TV show called Moonlighting which was a kind of comedy/procedural. Mostly he was known as a comedian. So, the producers were very unsure about whether he was suitable for the role. In the movie, there are a couple moments that played very strongly with the idea of "manliness" and the action hero trope. All the so called heroes, like the FBI guys and the LAPD swat team, ended up completely decimated. When the swat team is coming in guns blazing, John calls the cops out, calling them "macho assholes." Then that one older FBI guy is like, enjoying the rush of being "manly" and tough, screaming with glee about it being just like Saigon, and planning to gun down the terrorists, (and being perfectly fine with losing 20% of the hostages.) His callousness is meant to throw more shade on that BS tough guy, persona. Whereas John gets hurt, a lot; he admits to his fear and frustration, and his pain, and he asks for help. Then at the climax of the movie, John stops to be vulnerable and admit his mistakes when it came to his wife, and ask Al to make sure she gets his apology. All of those things were very new and mostly unheard of in action movies at the time. That's one of the reasons Die Hard was so popular and why it's endured for so long! Anyway, sorry for the movie history lesson no one asked for, I just find it really interesting! 😁 This was awesome - can't wait for your next Christmas movie! ❤️
