The difference that has been put in place for the show is that you can't steal a True Alpha's power. The only options for Scott's power to be stolen would be from a beta of his own making (Liam) or maybe if he let one into his pack (Theo) which never actually happened. Scott even said when he and Liam were trapped in the library that Theo wanted Liam to kill Scott so he could take it from Liam since he wouldn't be able to steal it from Scott.
