2022-04-20 22:57:19 +0000 UTCI believe the key to fully enjoy this show is to understand where everyone is coming from, Ester is perceived as the villain in this series because she tries to kill her children (which happen to be the main characters of the show) over and over again and because she Persues this so frequently she can be perceived as a monster or villain since mikael does pretty much the same thing, but it’s critical to understand her view she was a witch before a mother and although she had children witches have basic laws of nature engrained to them followed by their teachings in order to have some sort of balance in the world, Mikael was the one that had the idea to create vampires and forced Ester to follow through with changing her family, obviously both Mikael and Ester didn’t know the laws of nature would punish this act by giving them downsides like their blood lust and their encounters with the sun but Ester and Mikael both did it out of love and preservation to their family, Ester I believe loves all her children but as a witch and like she stated in the vampire diaries, spent 1000 years on the other side watching every horrific act klaus, Elijah and Rebekah had caused and that barely scratches the surface because of all the sired vampires around the world like ripper Stefan and humanity off Damon that kill with no remorse for life and in great quantities and if the killing wasn’t enough some of the methods used to kill like Stefan’s or klaus’s when he punishes somebody is more than plenty to drive someone crazy if they had to witness it for 1000 years not to mention someone like klaus would kill innocent people jus because they didn’t listen to exactly what he says or because he feels like it , this all lands back to Ester for creating the vampire bloodline, so as a server to nature and the teachings of a witch engraved in her from the start she sees as a must to exterminate the vampire bloodline to avoid all the evil they have been to the world because even though there is good vampires the majority of them out weigh the good any of the good ones could do, all in all I think Ester is very misunderstood as she loves her children but she has duties as a witch to fulfill for the decision she was forced into by mikael as this is also why davinas mother let davina be part of the harvest without telling her becsuse witches pick the good for the coven or the witch race before family even though esters love for her family was high enough to go against her teachings to make the vampire race and as the mother of the orginals she sees the bad her children have done and as a mother and witch she has to find a way to fix it (killing off the vampire bloodline), very good reaction Evie and can’t wait for the next one
