Man I love Otto. Best boy. Also Julius called Subaru his friend.

yup, just like when he returned after everyone at the mansion was killed by the Witch Cult...first time he went catatonic & Rem remarked how thick the miasma was hanging on him, second time (when he got pissed & grabbed her hand), she said the smell had grown stronger as well, nothing Echidna-specific here

Otto is a real one

Also @ the ending, such a cute scene, subaru used to the biggest death consequences because everyone who helps him has ulterior motives

Subaru can't explain why he would smell like the witch without dying by answering.

you're probably right, I can definitely see that with his interaction with Julius in season one, I can definitely tell he likes sizing up and compare himself with other men in the series, not uncommon someone his age

Oh and I'll just add that whether you think it's sexist or not Subaru is the type of person who always measures himself in relation to other men. He doesn't really do that with women. He can accept women being better than him at things and not feel threatened by it. With men he always has his guard up just a bit even if he likes and respects them.

Well in the novels I've read up to the point of a couple of episodes ago Subaru rejected the notion that he liked Otto when Emilia suggested it to him. She said the way he teased Otto was similar to how he teased Beatrice. Subaru claimed that he didn't actually like Otto and that his teasing was more mean spirited. Not quite bullying but in that ball park. You could say it was his petty revenge for getting shoved out of the carriage that time. Even if he was lying to himself about his true feelings and actually did like Otto it's often hard to believe that someone likes you when you think you don't like them.

I actually had a hard time understanding why Subaru was dense about Otto's friendship, it's not like he hasn't made any friends in this world. Even if we don't count Emilia and Rem, he has a genuine friendship with Crusch, Reinhard, and Julius, even Wilhelm considers him a friend.

Probably won't know until 2025 at this rate, I'm surprised when my friend told me they're going at a shockingly slow pace, only almost one volume done by episode 7, with more than 10 volumes left to cover

And Shinyu means best friend, but that gets used even less than Yujin

I'd just go ahead and say cuz Satella loves me :) even though that's gonna get me killed

The most common two are "tomodachi" and "nakama". "Tomodachi" roughly means playmate or someone you do leisure activities with. Whereas "nakama' is more like a comrade in arms. It's someone you work together with towards a shared goal. "Yujin" doesn't get used as often and is probably closest to what we think of when we use the word "friend" in terms of the emotional bond of friendship.

Just to explain the "Who's Eugene?" bit when Otto called Subaru a friend. The word Otto used for friend was "yujin". In Japanese there are a few different words that get translated in english to "friend" but all mean slightly different things.

Everything he's done so far might have been for Satella's benefit without him even realising it. After all who sets the checkpoints on Return by Death? Not Subaru.

That's my theory anyway. If it's true then I think it's possible that Subaru's Return By Death is one of these so called Authorities. It's also possible that the whole reason he was summoned to this world is to do something for Satella.

That's why each Archbishop is a Bishop of Sin because they possess an Authority that used to belong to one of the Witches of Sin.

I think that somehow when Satella was sealed away she managed to either pass on or share a portion of her Authorities with the Archbishops of the Witches Cult who were her followers.

I have a theory that each of the original seven Witches of Sin had their own special power or "Authority". I think Satella killed all the other witches and took their Authorities for herself.

The reason Garfiel thought Subaru's scent was stronger had nothing to do with Echidna, the tomb or the trial. It was because Subaru had just returned from death which made the scent of the witch or as Garfiel called it "miasma" stronger.

In season one there were two ways the scent of the witch was shown to get stronger on Subaru. 1) When he returned from death & 2) When he tried to talk about Return by Death and Satella would grab his heart to silence him.

Something you may not have noticed about Ryuzu. During her first interductions, she called herself Ryuzu Bilma, but in this episode, she says, "I swear it on the name of Ryuzu Shima", combined with an outfit change. You can till something is strange about that. 🤔

Btw there's really no point in people asking why he smells like the witch cause he truly doesn't even know himself.. but the only guess he has he can't even say it.. the scent also seems to get stronger after every time he dies.. It's just a lose/lose situation for him

As for why she never leaves the library it was stated back in S1 her power is tied to it and if she were to leave she would be completely powerless.. Ram pointed that out back when she tried to kill Subaru.

I wouldn't go judging Beatrice when you have little no info.. every witch has a gospel remember Bettleguese had sloth which obviously belong to the Witch of Sloth. The question remains which book does Beatrice possess.. when that's answered you'll know which witch she worked for
