Tuned up Glocks

I'll admit that I wasn't really into the whole idea of tuned up super Glocks at first... after all, isn't the whole point of a Glock that they are cheap and utilitarian?

That all changed the moment a pal who is a mediocre pistol shooter busted out his $2500 ZEV Glock and was able to make easy, consecutive hits on steel.  Like any good internet shit talker... I can make hits on steel at 100 yards with bone stock iron sights too!  Thing is, it is many many mangnitudes of order easier with pistol with a mounted red dot sight, weapon mounted light, match grade barrel and comp, magazine well, and trigger.

There is a little bit of user tuning needed to get these type of weapons running at full potential unfortunately, but I'm always happy to help with my own experiences.

1.  The red dot sight.  The best EDC red dot sight, the Trijicon RMR was designed before pistol slide mounting was a thing... so its power supply system requires a slight modification.  The housing, aperture, and electronics are all very hardened to shock and harsh use though.  It definitely lives up to the "rugged" name.

2.  Muzzle brake:  A muzzle brake is not needed, but very very handy for fast day light shooting, and even in comfort/controllability under NODs.  However, with a stock setup, it does not work well with 115 gr plinker ammo.  You have to use 124 or heavier gr ammo, OR modify you action spring's weight.  Kind of a paint to make a Glock more complicated... but it's an optional addition and very well worth the cost.

3.  The biggest challenge is mostly software or skill based, as pistol mounted, combat grade red dot sights all have a very small window, that's very far from the eye.  It means you have to have the capability to line up a pistol perfectly... and that takes many hours of reps, dry firing, and training to be able to pull it off on command (unless you're already an A Class or higher IPSC/USPSA shooter).
