Don’t think I seen anybody say but the reason momiji looked like that when his mom said see you later is because in Japan parents usually say that when the kids go off to school. As you can see that made him real happy.

Momiji is a better person than I am for telling Akito that he wouldn’t tell everyone that his curse broke, because the second that happened, I would’ve been shouting it from the rooftops lololol

Hi gentlemen!! To start with, the spoiler in the opening was about Momiji growing up, haha — you can watch it now!
It's been a while since I last commented, but in my defense, I was busy crying after every reaction because this season is a real tear-jerker. Still, it dives so deeply into each character’s development that it’s absolutely worth it. The episodes that brought me especially to tears were the one about Yuki and Machi with the whole "crow" thing, and the one where Momiji's curse ends...
YES, Momiji does have romantic feelings for Tohru, which deepened through everything they went through. But because Momiji always had that “little brother” image, his feelings were never explored much — for two reasons:
- It would have been too much to add another potential love interest for Tohru (especially since at first, we all thought Yuki was into her, when he actually wasn’t).
- Momiji is someone who quickly and deeply understands others — even before they understand themselves. He knows Tohru loves Kyo and that Kyo loves Tohru (even though Kyo tries not to admit it, because he knows he'll have to go into the Cat’s Room after high school).
Momiji knows the girl he has feelings for will never be his. He wants to see her happy, and that’s why he’s pushing Kyo to go for it — to not waste what Momiji himself wishes he could have.
That final scene, where his mother says “See you later, take care,” is kind of mistranslated. In Japanese, it’s a phrase you say to someone from your own household when they leave for the day — wishing them to return home safely. It’s something she would have said to him if they had been a normal family.
Momiji wants to build his own family.
And — little spoiler that’s not in the anime but in the manga — he will. :)
From what I understand about Momiji’s character, here’s my theory on why his curse broke at that moment: it was because he finally started seriously considering his own happiness. Even though he had grown up and looked more mature, he realized that Tohru was never going to see him that way. And as he got older, he couldn’t stay as innocent and naive as before — so his mindset began to shift.
That’s my interpretation — but maybe others will see it differently!
