Holy Cow! I was waiting the whole time to see if you recognized actor and writer Robert Shaw. I knew you got confused by the opening credits, which read, and Robert Shaw Bernard Lee as “M” You did recognize him BEFORE he spoke his first words, so still extra points on that. It just took you almost the whole movie. ;-) Definitely keep Watching and Reading the Opening Credits sequences. You may begin to recognize names of the Creative Team and crew appear over and over. Some names even begin to move up in ranks, as high as director. The people behind the scenes of the Bond films were like a Family. Much of them continued to work on the Bond films all the way up to the 90s with Pierce Brosnan. You asked how long it had been since Dr. No… it had only been One Year. Here is a fact that further explains how connected the first 16 films are. 16 films over 27 years, and the average time between films is 1 year and 9 months. The longest time between films being 2 years and 7 months, and the shortest time being 11 Months. The first 4 films were almost exactly 1 year apart. This is why much of the Creative Team stayed working on these films for so long. After they finished one, they immediately began working on the next. One of these names that I’ll point out first is… screenwriter Richard Maibaum. He wrote 13 of the 16 films. Another major fact that proves the James Bond from Dr. No to Licence to Kill is the same James Bond. They were all created from the same minds of, Ian Fleming first, then Richard Maibaum. And of course Albert R. Broccoli being the main thread that ties all 16 together.

That was indeed the same Robert Shaw who played Quint in Jaws. Fun fact, he actually said in an interview that he had to be persuaded by his wife and his secretary to accept the role in Jaws, saying "The last time they were that enthusiastic was From Russia With Love. And they were right then. So I took the part."

Goldfinger next please. Goldfinger establishes the 'Bond formula' with gadgets, evil supervillains, henchmen, bond songs etc. Many rate Goldfinger as the best Bond film ever.

HappySad

I do believe Goldfinger is widely considered to be the best Bond film. All of the Connery Bond films are great.
