Patreon Updates!

The form and function of our Patreon is long overdue for an update. Right now, we’re going through and making some improvements to your Patreon experience, including:
Free posts! (Backdated over the last year or so)
Categories and tags for easier searching
A new and updated master post of content
Slightly updated patron tiers
Apple Subscription Billing
Starting in November 2024, Apple is changing its rules for Patreon subscribers, meaning that new pledges will automatically increase by as much as 30% if you use iOS. This additional price doesn’t go to support us, and it doesn’t go to support Patreon as a company. To underline: Apple is the bad guy here.
If you use Apple products, you should subscribe to Patreon accounts using a web browser like Chrome (even a web browser on your iPhone) or a computer. Using the iOS app will mean that you pay a very literal Apple tax.
For everyone else, the knock-on effect is that new subscribers will be charged monthly on the day they first joined our Patreon. So if you pledge on the 12th of the month, you’ll be billed on the 12th, every month, rather than monthly on the 1st.
None of these changes are drastic and none of them affect existing patrons, but you should be aware of them going forward regardless. If you pledge to multiple Patreon creators, you have probably seen similar breakdowns from them as well.
Free Posts
Over the last year or so, you might have noticed regular, free Mage Hand Press posts going live on platforms like Reddit and Instagram. We're still tweaking our format for these posts -- right now, they’re mostly updates to content from Valda’s or Dark Matter -- but we decided to bring them to Patreon as well for your convenience! These posts will always be free (subscription or not) and they won’t subtract from our monthly rollout of content.
Updated Tiers
We’re also tweaking our Hero and Producer Tiers. No prices are shifting, but we’re slightly changing the reward structure to make each tier sensible. These changes will be rolling out over the next few weeks as we update the backlog.
Hero Tier gets all the posts for the last year (which we're finally updating to the most recent 12 months!) plus a selection of books like Taverns and Tankards and Mimic Book of Mimics. We're still finalizing this list of posts you'll have access to, so stay tuned for a master post.
Instead of getting softcovers, Producers get our big Kickstarter PDFs. (We’re still sending them softcovers, but just this once instead of an ongoing thing.)
