The World Ends in One Year

Following the sort of impromptu poll in last month's post, it seems that most folks would like to see more weird, experimental stuff. A near second was seeing Kickstarter books brought to Patreon when they're good and finished, which we'll also be doing, but Valda's will probably be next month (as there's some small changes I want to implement before locking it down for printing).

So this is the start of some experimental stuff. To work through my thoughts on a very challenging campaign setting, I've penned five articles which I'll likely release on the blog later on. This is far from being playable material; it's more of a question: "what if we made the most broken magic setting possible?" along with my attempt to answer it. I'm starting to approach the broad strokes of an implementation for this setting, which I'm tentatively calling The World Ends in One Year, and I'm super interested to hear what you think about it.

Comments

So just a few thoughts off the top of my head after skimming through the document and reading some bits more than others so apologies if I missed something that addresses these thoughts already. Also on mobile so apologies again for ass formating. 1. Monsters...are going to be insane as so many creatures would not be considered monsters without magic. How have people adapted to this intense threat? 2. Without magic we obviously become more technological. So where are we thinking technology to have gotten at this point. Still sword n sorcery level or gunpowder, steam engines, electricity? All or one or two are perfectly reasonable. 3. As to the gods. I think celestials and abyssal/demonic level beings have to be dead torn asunder by the exponential growth of magic...or perhaps the uncontrolled runaway magic is the result of them having obliterated one another at some point in the past. Perhaps throwing the universe out of balance or something like that. 4. Kind of about monsters again...any magical beings dragons, genies, fey, arcane constructs etc would likely have to be hunted to absolute extinction in order to avoid them causing the calamity just by existing.
