Insomnia 1
Added 2019-08-01 05:30:01 +0000 UTCThe Lovecraft Redux has evolved into something a little more ambitious -- it's our Next Big Project now. I'll explain more about where we're taking the project in a bit, but first, let me explain what we're making:
What's Insomnia?
Insomnia is Horror 5E. In this supplement, your goal in any given adventure is to survive a single, outrageously powerful monster, while simultaneously investigating it to expose some sort of weakness that allows it to be banished/weakened/made vulnerable. We plan to make each monster an encapsulated adventure in its own right, with four unique Undead monsters, four Eldritch monsters, four Demonic monsters, and four Alien monsters.
Moreover, the book is going to include a handful of mini-settings (three are planned), which give you just enough in terms of variant rules and interesting locations to build your own mystery within them.
Lastly, we're going to include more horror rules than you can shake a stick at. We have no plans to reinvent the wheel here -- we're all still playing 5E material -- but these rules should let you modify the system to taste, transforming it into a vehicle for your very own horror stories.
(Oh! And we're doing character options. Those are actually further back on the list than normal this time, since nailing the big premise of the adventure-monsters and the variant rules for all the settings takes precedent. We're definitely writing them, though.)
How Far Along is the Book?
Chapter 1 (all about running a horror game) is finished (subject to additional expansions), Chapter 2 (All about horror settings) is 50%, and we're part of the way through several monsters. We're also working with a graphic designer to give the book a unique horror look, but until then, it's in a default MHP skin with basically no decoration. We've got a lot of art done as well, but I don't want to implement that and then have to tear down everything we've made when the graphic design is done.
The plan is to finish Chapters 1, 2, and at least three monsters by the end of next month. For now, though, we're just delivering the bare-bones version of everything we have finished.
Where's this Book Going Long Term?
We're going to work on the book for a while here until it's mostly done, then take it to Kickstarter to wrap it up. Thanks to the modular nature of the book, we can basically include some of the monsters here (say, two from each category, or more likely, all of the Undead and Eldritch, since those will be the first two completed) and some of the settings, then bolt additional monsters and settings on for a more complete Kickstarter push. We'll keep updating it and polishing it here until it makes that jump, then further versions will be accessible through Kickstarter sources. Basically, you get a normal-length Patreon book, then it hops over to Kickstarter to grow even larger.

2019-08-02 05:55:27 +0000 UTCNow question time: Will you include character Archtypes/Subclasses in the book? Would such subclasses be new or your many existing horror themed subclasses? Would you include in a full kickstarter book the Investigator Class like you did with the Gadgeteer and the Dark Matters Book?? (This is assuming a swimmingly well Kickstarter which I hope it will be.)

2019-08-01 15:28:16 +0000 UTCIf the False Hydra (http://goblinpunch.blogspot.com/2014/09/false-hydra.html) isn't part of this I'm going to be very sad. That's one I've wanted to run for a while.
