From the Arcane Archive
Added 2018-11-01 04:30:05 +0000 UTCThat dusty tome, its gilded cover worn and scuffed, somehow looked older than the wizard carrying it.
Throughout our years crafting content for 5th Edition, we at Mage Hand Press have written a staggering number of spells. From the Arcane Archive is a massive book of 250 spells, collected from works like the High Seas Update, the Complete Witch, and Dark Matter. Within its pages are options for every type of spellcaster, including many of Mage Hand Press's own creations, with new and innovative spells, resurrected old favorites, and brand new creations you never knew you wanted to cast.
Whether you're playing a full spellcaster or have one level in bard, this incredible resource is for you!

On a serious note, this book is over 60 pages -- I had no idea it was going to be this long. I hope you all like it and that the drop-caps don't seem out of place.
Since this was supposed to be a short-book month, we'll be taking next month as a Catch-Up Month, a time for us to finish the Complete Alchemist Redux, the Craftsman Redux, and the Alpha for Dark Matter (as well as getting a run-up on Electric East.)
Changelog:
- 11/1/18: Typos
- 1/14/19: New art throughout!
- Material cost on Memorize decreased to 10 gp
- 7/2/19: New cover added

I take no legal responsibility for how silly your spellcasters get from here on out.

2018-11-08 07:51:55 +0000 UTCThis is so ridiculously useful that I didn’t even know how badly I needed it. Let the Lovecraftian Dragon Hardlight mages commence!

2018-11-08 07:42:27 +0000 UTCWe cleaved most of those spells, since they're literally just a weird pun. Same reason we cut the Mispelled Spells from Fey Folio; they don't make sense without context.

2018-11-06 13:01:12 +0000 UTCSo, I just wanted to take a moment to thank ya'll for all the various construct spells you added with this archive. I realize they're primarily designed for the Dark Matter campaign, but I love how much they add as far as spellcasting for a Conjuration wizard in general. I really feel like creating objects is an under represented skill for them, and this makes me want to pull out my old Conjurer from 3.5 :) It just makes it that much more hilarious that these spells require a power ring to use :)

2018-11-02 12:08:59 +0000 UTCYou're welcome, welcome, welcome!
Mage Hand Press
2018-11-02 08:08:36 +0000 UTCIt should absolutely let you duplicate an anvil. That's a relatively small manufactured item, after all. The new object appears on the ground, though, so you'd need a second spell (like telekinesis) to drop it on someone.

2018-11-02 07:42:15 +0000 UTCi dont think the intention for this spell was a wild e coyote shenanigans moment, good on you if it was lol.

2018-11-02 01:02:32 +0000 UTCYeah, thats a good workaround, maybe a weight restriction too, i looked up 5 cubic feet of gold, and its over 3 american tons, 6000 pounds, pretty sizable
Ryan Patrick Nolan
2018-11-02 01:00:17 +0000 UTCIt would copy any mundane materials within the object faithfully. The spell isn't really meant for blocks of raw materials though; the intent is to copy manufactured goods like weapons, clothes or furniture. Maybe we'll have to amend the spell to clarify that. I'd be okay with putting a maximum gp value on the object to be created, like with Nolzur's Marvelous Pigments.
The Nails of Vecna
2018-11-01 23:12:05 +0000 UTCHey, another question, with the "Duplicate Object" spell, i know that you cant copy certain materials, but what about valuable ones, such as a big 5ft block of gold or platinum, or another metal, not to mention cold iron, to make fae damaging stuff.
Ryan Patrick Nolan
2018-11-01 22:25:15 +0000 UTCMkay, I just thought it was a little weird
Ryan Patrick Nolan
2018-11-01 21:01:33 +0000 UTCAlso, crawling claw is not SRD, so we definitely can't mention it in the book.
The Nails of Vecna
2018-11-01 20:57:50 +0000 UTCYou're definitely meant to use the MM creeping claw. That was what inspired me to write the spell! We kinda figured it was so obvious that we didn't need to call it out...
The Nails of Vecna
2018-11-01 20:56:38 +0000 UTCYep. The idea is that the enclave is big enough for an entire fairy village/palace (and if not, I'm pretty sure I worded it to allow nested enclaves), so the enclave becomes a permanent settlement that can only be accessed by high level casters who already know where it is.
The Nails of Vecna
2018-11-01 20:55:09 +0000 UTCI know SRD and all that, but i think just referencing it in the spell would be fine, i just imagine killing a foe, then using all its hands and feet to kill the next one, morbid
Ryan Patrick Nolan
2018-11-01 20:44:33 +0000 UTCHey, just reading through it and i had a question (and ill probably have more so sorry in advance!), i was reading animate body part, now, i saw that there was no hand option available in the animate body parts, are we just supposed to substitute the creeping claw statistics?
Ryan Patrick Nolan
2018-11-01 20:42:31 +0000 UTC1: Just fixed it. Thanks for pointing that out. Secret Enclave is from Fey Folio. Once you've created an enclave, it's fixed in one place. If you leave, you can access it again by casting this spell again, but only if you do so while at the entrance to the enclave. Otherwise, if you leave, there's no coming back.
Mage Hand Press
2018-11-01 19:45:04 +0000 UTCLove it! Three Questions! 1: Did you know there is a second table of contents at the bottom of the file under the Licence? You probably did, though I hit end and I thought I was at the top again. 2: What is Secret Enclave from? It lacks a tag. AND 3: Secret Enclave, based on the wording, you can create the initial portal an it can only be opened from that same point from then on even if you use another 9th level spell to reach there again while elsewhere? I ask because it has a time limit on how long the door is there but says that the location is then fixed, just looking for a little clarification! Danke!!!

2018-11-01 17:54:48 +0000 UTCOh, thanks, that makes sense. I didn't catch that one was ranged.
EthnicElvis
2018-11-01 17:41:32 +0000 UTCThe difference is that minor lifesteal (formerly known by a different, copyright-infringing name; see <a href="http://mfov.magehandpress.com/2017/02/necromancy-spells.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://mfov.magehandpress.com/2017/02/necromancy-spells.html</a>) is ranged, while bloody lancet requires a melee attack (it's got a 10-foot range to allow it to work with reach weapons) like the blade cantrips in SCAG.
The Nails of Vecna
2018-11-01 17:39:50 +0000 UTCThis is really cool! One small thing that confused me though is the existence of bloody lancet and minor lifesteal. It seems weird that they both exist and give you the same amount of hp, but one simply does more damage than the other.

2018-11-01 11:04:54 +0000 UTCI haven't decided, but _probably_ not. It would be a lot of upkeep. That being said, I'm happy to do another one of these books when we've written a lot more spells.
