Vecna Preview: Exemplar

*This awesome subclass, originally a version of the Invisible Blade, comes from Darkdinoguy Derek!*

Random updates: this month, we've got another big base class on slate for release, and next month, the Desert Update will probably occupy most of the project space. After that, it's just a matter of which gets done first: the Complete Warmage, a class-specific bundle, like a Complete Fighter or Complete Wizard, or something in Manifest. And we have even more (albeit less massive) base classes in the works.

And I finally got a group together to playtest the first session of Green Hell (the first adventure in Manifest Campaign Setting) this last weekend, and it was pretty great! I mean, there was almost a full-party wipe at one point, but the rest of the session went off without a hitch. Writing this adventure is taking a ton of time, but the results are great!

Anyway, enjoy the class preview!

There will be a sidebar about cantrip selection for the Warmage. Essentially, if it's available to a wizard, it should be available to a warmage, though there are a few notable additions.

Jaron Mortimer

In some ways, it's changed substantially, in other ways, not at all. Now, it's a cantrip on its own (so it doesn't require a trick to get), but other tricks do have synergy with it to make it better.

I have only one question, is anything going to happen to Magic Daggers? Cause I freaking love effectively throwing Great Swords worth of damage at people by being a Bishop. The flavor is too fun.

Grimeagle

Can't believe that got by me -- I'll fix it ASAP

Minor formatting issue: the 'Using Superiority Dice' sub-heading is in the middle of the 'Superiority Dice' paragraph.

Will Clark

We intend for the new warmage to be playable with just the Player's Handbook and the PDF. We've emulated some of the cantrip types from SCAG and EE so that the class gets the functionality you would expect, but there's no specific mention of cantrips from other sources. This helps with it being future-proof (so it doesn't have to be rewritten every time new cantrips come out) and ensures that it's OGL compliant. Plus, there's something to be said for ease of use.

Are to SCAG and EE cantrips going to be compatible with the rebalanced Warmage class?

Jason McCray

Oh yeah. The Complete Warmage is going to be a distinct class that rebalances a bunch of things and which uses only SRD cantrips. Plus, we're throwing in a bunch of cantrips of our own design to spice things up. Plus another subclass.

THERE'S MORE FOR WARMAGE!!!???
