Vecna Preview: Hexblade
Added 2016-04-25 17:21:31 +0000 UTCUnlike a few builds I've seen for hexblades, this one is a merging of the fighter and the warlock with the primary emphasis being on fighter. While this is a ready substitute for the Eldritch Knight, it's focus is more about debilitating and locking down single targets in lieu of straight damage.
Changelog: 4/26/16: Eldritch Aura: Only add half proficiency bonus on saves you are not proficient in.
Eldritch Aura: Add full proficiency bonus all saves against spells
Comments
See, I still think that's too powerful to offer in a subclass, even after removing the 10 foot range and making it solely against spells. I think it'd be fine to give the Hexblade proficiency on all saves against spells (up from half proficiency), but +Cha on a subclass that will reasonably get high Cha will result in at least a couple 10+proficiency bonuses on saves, ie, untouchable saves. That's fine for the paladin, since that's a huge part of the class, but I'm opting for a more conservative approach here.

2016-04-27 02:49:41 +0000 UTCIf we're going to do anything, I'd rather it be changed to match the Paladin's Aura of protection (minus the 10 foot range). As it is now, it feels far too weak, especially for a 10th level ability.

2016-04-26 16:43:42 +0000 UTCI'd like to point out that the flavor for these guys is to specifically be Mage-hunters.

2016-04-26 16:40:25 +0000 UTCNo, it's definitely too high. Half proficiency bonus (or even all proficiency bonus at 15th level) to every save sounds closer to the mark. I must admit, this was one of the Palm's pieces, so I didn't test the numbers in this feature too closely.

2016-04-25 20:25:59 +0000 UTCMaybe add half (?) proficiency bonus against spells on saving throws you aren't proficient with? Even on level 15, a potential +15 bonus on all CON saves seems virtually unbeatable, though I don't have the Monster Manual on hand to compare numbers.

2016-04-25 18:49:25 +0000 UTCYou might be totally right on that point. I have a couple of approaches I could take on this front, but the most likely seems that I might switch the 10th and 15th level features before the proper release. Not sure, though; I might need to mull this one over for a solution.

2016-04-25 17:49:24 +0000 UTCI must say, this seems like what the Eldritch Knight should feel like, can't wait to test it out! Only concern would be the Eldritch Aura, which seems very powerful for a fighter, considering their biggest weakness is an enemy spellcaster...
