I love the thought of the summoner, constantly evolving his eidolon to fit the situation, I'm a Starcraft fan and it reminds me of the Zerg. When I play a summoner I try to emulate that. I'm ok with having a reduced power in spell and focusing on the eidolon. I do kinda want to see a synthesis between the two, maybe they combine like the synthesist archetype from PF.

I think the obvious choice would be to command the eidolon like casting a quickened spell : it's a bonus action, but you only have enough time to cast a cantrip with your action. From there, the real challenge is making sure that the eidolon is useful, but not overshadowing the melee frontliners or breaking the action economy in some other way.

The problem is, minionmancy is exceptionally hard to balance, because it manipulates the action economy like you are controlling two characters at once. So, I need to figure out how to get that just right, even at higher levels, before I release anything on it
