Interesting, I've only ever been outside the US to go to Mexico and Canada and I also noticed their lack of public restrooms, water fountains, and yes barbeque pits by comparison to the US. Granted large US cities lack much more of these public amenities than the small to mid-sized cities and feel very much like Mexico city and Toronto.
