Dying Light vid animation breakdown

Here's what the video looked like during storyboarding, keyframes, inbetweens, and color, in that order.

Occasional commentary offered by me throughout to explain what's happening on screen.

If you have any questions, let me know!

This reminds me of the time when i applied as a cinematic designer for a well known game company.. I presented everything i had. I did some good machinemas at that time, they were even shown on tv once... BUT, since i alwas worked alone, i never did story boards.... sooo they decided i dont have enough expirience becasue of that -.-

I had a rough idea of how much work animators did, but now as I see it in it’s entirety, it most certainly puts it in perspective. Like…the backgrounds and details that only get shown from a few frames to a few seconds. I love how the chase music just amplified with the rhythm of the alarm. The perspectives, speed and warm/cool color tones…honestly made me feel immersed and exhilarated! I’ve been thinking about starting to teach myself to animate by starting out with little crappy shitpost doodles of my characters doing rather simplistic things just to send as reaction gifs to my discord friends. I made one that’s basically tilting a still image from side to side across the screen last night using PicsArt. Without getting like…as deep as this was since this was very much a massive project that y’all clearly threw your hearts into, do you think that I should follow these sort of steps? Does your 3D model guy sometimes help you plan out lighting dynamics and shading? Is there a specific technique or quirk you like to incorporate into your work to show off or just really enjoy? (For instance, for my traditional/paper drawing, I have different pencils to differentiate between stages of the drawing, ie; circle-skeleton, sketch, then solidify before drawing over the main lines with pen.) How often do you play a game casually and subconsciously incorporate the game’s style into your own? What’s the worst advice you think artists new and experienced continue to follow? Sorry for peppering you with questions; I hope I don’t come off as annoying or oblivious to something hanging right in my face!
