Raye - Live at Glastonbury (2025) FIRST REACTION

Something I love about Raye (and also Beyonce) and something that I think is the mark of true artist, is that you'll almost never hear her perform the same song live in the exact same way. Like this performance of Oscar Winning Tears was a lot more jazz influenced than her performance of it at Royal Albert Hall. Beyonce plays with her compositions too for live performances but she mainly also does a lot mixing with samples that I always find interesting, like tying two songs or sounds together that I never thought of like her Coachella performance where she played a Nina Simone interlude in the middle of one of her songs. That shows me real creativity and artistry ya know, that the performer understands their own vision and their music further than just "learn the words and sing it" when they can take it and connect it to other genres or other types of art and it's still unique to that artist's sound or aesthetic while also connecting to something bigger. I don't know if I'm talking about it in a way that makes sense but I hope it's understandable. Also, Raye does most of her performances barefoot when she can. She has since the beginning, but most people often don't notice. She has said it makes her feel more grounded and connected. It's on of my favourite fun facts about her.

You can watch her just become music. It's truly wonderful to see someone absolutely in their element. I also believe she'll go down as a legend.

OMG YES THIS! For me, it's her complete lack of pretence—she is who she says she is and sings from and about that place of genuine honesty and vulnerability. She doesn't use some faux accent but her own unique, powerful voice, which makes everything she does resonate ten times harder. I immediately sent "I Know You're Hurting" to one of my best pals who's going through a tough time right now because it perfectly summed up what I wanted to say. She should have been on the main stage—next time, she will be! I believe she'll go down in the history books as a genuine legend of our time.
