Lorde - Pure Heroine (full album) FIRST TIME REACTION

Lorde's new album "Virgin" comes out this week. I've been checking out the singles and as promised, I'm listening to her debut album "Pure Heroine" today. Might as well start from the beginning :)

Lorde - Pure Heroine (full album) FIRST TIME REACTION

Comments

This album came out the year I graduated high school, I have so many memories of driving around my small town (and the neighboring town, because they were both that small) with my friends listening to it. I had a shitty old car (2000 Ford Taurus) with a cassette player, and I bought one of those things with the cassette tape with a wire attached that you could plug in to your iPod or phone and I used that lol this album was all over every playlist I made.

Great reaction! When you find the time you should do a deep dive into Tove Lo!

loved this! I think Melodrama will blow you away. if this is minimalist production, Melodrama is maximalist. She said the aim of her music is to make it timeless, that's why her songs, even if from 2013, sound ahead of the time. Also she said her albums are all inspired by a type of "drug", Pure Heroine is alcohol, Melodrama is MDMA, Solar power is weed and Virgin...still to see. And because of her Synesthesia every album represents a color and Pure Heroine is green according to her. By the way, it's insane that she wrote this album when she was 15/16!

I first discovered Lorde with Team, back then my English wasn’t that great (not that it’s perfect now, but hey, it’s better haha), so when I liked a song, it was usually the production that caught me first, and only later I’d look up the lyrics and get the full picture. With Lorde, at least for me, there are two main styles in her production: the kind that slowly builds and then suddenly hits you like a wave, and the ones that are super raw and stripped down. My favorite in this album besides Team and Royals of course, is Buzzcut Season. Side note 1 - If you're planning on doing a deep dive into her stuff, there’s a track called Yellow Flicker Beat (it even has a music video). It was part of the Hunger Games: Mockingjay soundtrack and relesead by that time, definitely worth checking out; Side note 2 - I have a feeling you’re going to love Melodrama. For me, it’s basically a no-skip album. It’s full of that explosive production I mentioned earlier, and it really shows her growth as an artist. Also, if there’s a big Lorde fan hanging around here, feel free to show yourself (maybe Dennis?), cause I think we might need you for this journey with Virgin haha. Side note 3 - Please, I'm not mean to be weird or anything, but I’m a dentist and I couldn't help but stare when you showed your teeth. I’m a big supporter of natural smiles, and I gotta say, your canines shape are textbook perfect!!!

Lorde uses a lot of figurative language lol. I think watching some of her recent interviews might help! Once you get familiar with her style/personality, I think you’ll really grow to appreciate every song on this album. Ribs, White Teeth Teens, and A World Alone are my faves. She wrote these lyrics at just 15/16, yet they still capture the teenage experience so beautifully—people are still relating to them today! Personal note: A World Alone makes me so emotional bc it perfectly describes the relationship I have with my best friend. Lastly, you said you worry about getting old during “Ribs”. Understandable, but at least you’re aging well bc that body is bodying!!🔥❤️😂

Also listen to The Love Club EP! (it's just 15 minutes but Bravado and the Love Club are worth the listen)

I was blessed enough to see her on this tour twice, the first she was 16 and for her age her stage presence was insane Still such a nostalgic album for my teen years
