Lady Gaga - "JOANNE" music video & GRAMMYs Performance with A Million Reasons
Added 2025-06-12 16:23:00 +0000 UTCToday I'm putting the cap on the JOANNE era with this deeply personal reaction to the music video for the track and her live performance at the GRAMMYs. It's not lost on me that we've all suffered great losses in our lives. I wasn't sure if I was ever going to talk about this, but I find it important to be genuine and discuss my real life experiences with everyone because they more often than not are relatable. This song and seeing Gaga present it to her grandma during FIVEFOOTTWO is another testament to the amazing human being that she is. It shows the empathy that she carries for others and beautifully embodies the energy that Lady Gaga is known for putting out into the world. Very loving, genuine and kind. I think she has one of the purest souls I've come across and maybe that's why she always pulls such a genuine reaction out of me. I also just really love the way she sings this song. Her vocal talent is truly on display during the JOANNE era.

We appreciate you so much, lots of love to you and your family. x This always makes me think of my Gran who passed shortly after covid times, just before I was due to visit her. She was the strongest, funniest Scottish woman and my favourite person in the world. I was only 20 when she passed so I felt like I had just started getting to know her woman to woman and hear her life story. It breaks me every time I think about her but one thing that makes me feel better is knowing that the memories we shared will always exist eternally in the fabric of time and they are just as real and present as the moments I’m living through right now. There is absolutely nothing that can take that away even as my memory becomes more diluted. Love is so powerful sometimes it really hurts but what makes it hurt is that you had a love so big and beautiful in the first place that hurt and loss can’t take away. Sorry for the obscenely long message! Even if no one reads it, it still means a lot to put it out there which I never usually do and maybe it helps uplift one person. This journey is a crazy rollercoaster, thanks Juke and Gaga for being a warm, safe place for us and the brightest souls out there. 🩵

BTW was so healing for me personally, and I know that's true for many others because it unapologetically put love (of others and yourself) at the centre of who and how we are in the world. I'm excited for you to dive into BTW because I think you'll find it equally uplifting, meaningful, and healing, especially given the experience you've been so open, courageous, and vulnerable in sharing. I think you're spot on about why this music hits: Gaga is authentic, and you know she's speaking from a place of vulnerability and experience, which is why our walls just come down. There's an image a friend shared with me recently when going through a rough time: Kintsugi – the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer. The areas of breakage are still visible but transformed and in gold – something new and more beautiful is made from the pieces of pottery. I think that well describes my own experience of loss, and Gaga's too (I often think of her songs as her putting the pieces of pottery back together), and hopefully you find it helpful. Grief is unfortunately the shadowy side and the price we pay for love; there are no words, only love – know that I'm very sorry to hear of your loss, and just how grateful I am (and others are) that we can be on this journey with you.
