Taylor Swift's Apple Music Interview w/Zane Lowe (Songwriting Process on ‘evermore’)

Comments

Loved this interview when it aired and loved reliving it with you now. Honestly at this point, when she drops anything new, I will save my first listen to have it with you😂 Side question, if you have time to address it - do you listen to anything a liiiittle heavier than pop?

Evgenia

I so appreciate you giving Evermore her flowers.

Ivy

Zane Lowe is one of my favorite interviewers as well. He truly does his research and he asks really thoughtful, interesting questions. Idk if you've seen the Harry Styles interviews (I think there are 2) but they are definitely worth checking out as well. So...I recommend this on YouTube all the time, but Ima do it here too: How Did It End - live from Stockholm (there's an official audio of it with reduced crowd noise, and a decent video of her singing). And if you don't want to leave evermore, I highly recommend her solitary performance of evermore on the Eras Tour. I can get you links if you need them. I think there's also a mashup of Exile and Evermore (?)

Ivy

Wow, I've been a fan of Taylor since her first album and for some reason never watched this interview in its entirety. I loved watching it alongside you!

Laurel Meng

Such a great interview Danny! I really love to hear her thought process when writing songs. I've seen Zane's interview with Harry Styles, but not Taylor's. The song "Marjorie" hits me hard too. My 87-year-old mother has advanced Alzheimer's Disease. Although she is still here with us physically, she is not all here mentally. There are so many times I want to ask her about her past, but she has lost most of her memories. It makes me so sad. :(

Cynthia Long

And they are two out of my three favorite eras lmaooooo ofc 😭😭

Laurasr618

A few of these performances, particularly exile and evermore, are absolutely incredible and some of my favorite she has ever done.

Marisa

I don't want you to leave the evermore era yet either, and you don't have to! Here are some acoustic versions of songs from evermore, folklore, and Midnights! Evermore the song She performs the whole thing solo without Bon Iver. I feel like it gives the song a whole new life. https://youtu.be/Qr9QqHlIwB8?si=EV9NP8trwHjSkOVu Cowboy Like Me, performed with Marcus Mumford! https://youtu.be/Sr6RKRFNJt4?si=Lryy8MaBW2rj3vH1 This is me trying x Labyrinth https://youtu.be/Usy34tXpliQ?si=Nslmq6FDVXNR1N1n Mirrorball x epiphany https://youtu.be/nOBALbWWujY?si=VIFT0xp32M8QNicP Mad Woman (with Aaron dessner playing piano) https://youtu.be/T5OTPjTwQlk?si=65iWUIiuurUlQyBr Exile Taylor plays it solo on the piano and sings it without Bon Iver and finds a creative way to do both call and response parts in the bridge https://youtu.be/MlkhtTGE6JM?si=M73BKMhu0GslvQnb Sweet Nothing x Hoax https://youtu.be/IgU_OKeIhiY?si=8vhTIJLroZ8cAIFd Maroon https://youtu.be/V0IZvqwaYII?si=CNiPPF7cSTrO9sWv You're On Your Own, Kid https://youtu.be/65UDW7tzvro?si=bIcLjGVaEnD_I1fv I know people don't want you to watch performances from the Eras Tour yet because they want you to be seeing it for the first time when you react to it. But The fandom is fairly confident that she is going to release a 2.0 tour film that incorporates the Tortured Poets set. There were songs that had to be cut from the setlist to fit the Tortured Poets set. So you could react to the folklore and evermore ones that got cut, because you probably wouldn't end up seeing them otherwise. I always say Evermore and Speak Now are the forgotten children. 😢😂💜🧡

Another interview like this is Directors on Directors, except she’s talking about… you guessed it, directing! It’s about her All Too Well short film. You’ll love it when you get to it.

Maggie

No rush to leave this era at all, take your time!! But I'm hypeddd for you to see the Miss Americana doc in the next era eventually haha. I love your Tay reactions, glad you're doing well w your fam too :)

Isa

Also this probably isn't a reaction but if you want to restore your faith in humanity go on TikTok and search her visiting Children's Mercy hospital a few days after the eras tour ended. The first thing she couldn't wait to do after her years long tour ended was visit sick kids. The videos are the most precious thing ever. She didn't film it, it videos from the parents that are just so sweet. She asked all the kids what they wanted for Christmas, had her team write it down, then sent them it after. Her philanthropic efforts are unmatched. And she's been doing it for decades, when she talked to the little boy about Spider-Man in the hospital years ago it was so sweet. She is so sweet to kids.

Your TayReacts are some of the one I look forward to, thanks again. Although you’re sad to leave ever-lore, I can wait for the Lover era and Miss Americana documentary. 🩵

Wil M

She literally is making a movie that is supposed to start filming sometime this year. She is directing and wrote the original screenplay but the story is being kept under wraps for now

Christy

Loved this! I never left the folkmore era, I listen to it every day. Help, I'm still at the restaurant 🤣 but there are similar vibes in other albums too. I cannot wait for you to hear all too well. My favorite song of hers. But her fun stuff is awesome too. She's really well rounded. Travis is quoted as saying she has a song for every feeling and every mood, and he was right ☺️ she can get you pumped up before a party and also console you when ur sad, I love that about her. Love you as well! You are such an amazing person! Also, Taylor is very aware of online stuff about her and I'm pretty sure has a team who briefs her of her online happenings. I wouldn't be surprised if she knew who you were and has been shown some of your videos. I think she would love this. She's been known to send handwritten cards to content creators she appreciates. I feel like this may be in your future. I know it sounds weird but she seriously does that stuff. Anyways, you are awesome and I can't wait for Red TV! Also really looking forward to her tiny desk after Lover 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Sadly on your folklore/evermore Grammy performance vid on youtube there is a user “sonic_aquarius” spreading hateful comments about Taylor and trolling those who enjoyed the video. I’m used to seeing random Taylor hate in the wild (though she is much more loved in the world by millions), but it was hard to see it in this positive community you’ve built. I’ve so been enjoying seeing fellow Taylor fans loving your reactions, I wish this person could leave us to our happiness.

Michelle A

Loved your thoughts on this, and I agree listening to Taylor talk is very satisfying. Getting an insight to her mind is such a privilege. The best part of this is knowing that she did indeed have the chance to perform folklore/evermore during the Eras tour and she absolutely knocked it out of the park - so satisfying to see her belt the bridge of champagne problems! 🥰 I cannot wait for you to watch the full Eras tour (maybe do it in two or three different sittings, it’s a lot!) I know you’re not wanting to leave this era, but I absolutely promise you that you have some AMAZING music and eras ahead. It’s not all bubble gum pop as you may think from the radio hits (though I think you’ll come to appreciate those songs more as you revisit them), but each album has real depth and great writing that you’ll truly adore. She won’t let you down - younger Taylor is a FORCE of nature!

Michelle A

Little did they know she would be writing You're Losing Me a year later. :( Here's what Jack posted about the song when it hit streaming: https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/comments/1874hnd/jack_antonoffs_new_ig_story_hints_at_taylor/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Yeah i try to protect mine too. I don’t give it unless im asked but when i am asked i try to put the decision in their hands so they don’t feel forced into it. What they can accept maybe I wouldn’t and what i can accept maybe they can’t and i usually make that known. Ikr so cool 😎

Isabella Peterson

we have more two mini Interviews from folklore and evermore era, here the links: https://youtu.be/ionfV_r8s40?si=nMtjJ35aPTJ_6d0D ( Taylor Swift on Turning 31, New Album, Fan Theories, Documentary & Boyfriend’s Pseudonym by Jimmy Kimmel) https://youtu.be/zude9P5pYEc?si=z3_ViTR-0ZBL6zPH ( Taylor Swift talks about her new concert film on Disney+ l GMA ) these two links it's 20min only

james

His preparation for these interviews has to be so much fun

Daniel Juke

The swifties joke it’s the forgotten child and she addressed it on one of the first nights of the eras tour!! She’s so cute in this little video https://youtube.com/shorts/3V4Ycv3c220?si=N2eww57wRBUPjB2D

Laurasr618

That’s a good way to look at it. Right now, I just listen because I know people need to vent. I try not to get too involved unless I’m asked to. I don’t want to be judgmental and those situations kind of force you to haha. I’m always searching for peace. It’s taken a lot to get here 😅 That is wild about Travis! That invisible string has to be tied to him lol 💙

Daniel Juke

I’ll be keeping my eye out for it! That’s exciting 😌

Daniel Juke

As a recent outsider, I never even heard of evermore. I’m pretty sure I’ve at least heard of the other titles. Maybe not Midnights either 😂 but yeah it deserves all the love in the world 💙

Daniel Juke

That really was a great interview. It felt like a conversation, not a barrage of questions that we're aiming to exploit or probe in an intrusive way. You could tell Taylor was comfortable talking with him.

Shanna

Wow i haven’t listen to this interview since it came out and remembered just how much i love it. I love seeing you get to experience how taylor acts and thinks because its a big part of why we all love her. I wanted to touch on some things. I definitely do think some of the songs have personal meanings too, however maybe not fron start to finish but more metaphorical in many ways. Renegade (i sent this on the doc) that she wrote with Big Red Machine is definatly personal and you’ll hear that. And to touch on how much to tell your friends in situations that are bad (i too am the friend groups go to for problems) i think its important that when they do ask for advice to not be over critical or mean towards the partner (even if they are a big douch) because that is when they turn on you if they make up. I usually explain how i see it and then ask if they think its something they can live with or forgive. If they can than they do that, if not you have maybe planted that seed of they deserve more. And leave it up to them while explaining how thibgs can be different. Also on a fun note, we all know Taylor loves the ”invisible string” and her thibking marjorie is with her is so cool now because Travis Kelce actually has the same birthday as her grandma ☺️

Isabella Peterson

Well Danny, you will probably be very pleased to know that Taylor has in fact already written an original script and will be making a feature directorial debut in the future. We don't know when this might happen or any other details except that it is supposed to be with Searchlight Pictures, but I for one am reallyyy looking forward to that! Thank you for this reaction video today, I haven't listened to this interview in years and forgot how good it is. Props to Zane Lowe, he really is brilliant at what he does.

monika

Her kindness shines through in this interview. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Sandy Bourdeau

I love this interview. You can definitely tell (imo) that some of the songs on folklore and evermore are a little more auto biographical than she’s leading on here now that we’ve heard midnights and tortured Poets department. I wish ever more got a little more attention because I honestly think that’s one of her best albums. justice for evermore!!
