Taylor Swift - You're Losing Me (From The Vault)

Comments

I agree going in order really helps people see the evolution of Taylor but also connect call backs and see common themes.

Liz N

This song is very directly related to So Long London on TTPD. The only bad thing about going backwards is you don’t really get the evolution of the bigger story. Because her writing is so autobiographical a lot of the songs across the albums have callbacks to songs on previous albums. But I’ve loved watching your reactions to Taylor so far. It’s very refreshing so see someone who isn’t a swiftie really appreciate how talented of a writer she is. She literally writes poetry in song form.

Melissa Jo 💜

She wrote in the epilogue of TTPD that they had to really try for years to make it work. So it seems like it was a slow burn to the end. For your next album I HIGHLY recommend you read the epilogue/prologue to the album before you listen. It will really give you a better understanding of her frame of mind as she was writing. That will be especially beneficial for Folklore/Evermore because in those 2 albums some of the songs she is writing fictional stories versus the autobiographical way she normally writes.

Melissa Jo 💜

yes, totally! if i were you, i‘d do this after the midnights music videos: - read up on the DRAMAA and beef with kanye and kim prior to watching miss americana and listening to rep. it is essential to understand the writing process for rep as it was the driving factor behind it and the nature of joe and tay’s relationship - watch miss americana - listen to rep + definitely watch all the mv (just listen to the og version, it could be a WHILE until we get rep tv, as we had to learn the hard way🤣) - lover - folklore long pond sessions - evermore it doesn’t really make sense for you to go backwards with the albums from now on, in order to really read the whole story you should start with rep and work your way up to evermore:) and don’t forget all the mv!! they are genius after that i’d recommend to jump back to the first 5 albums 😇😇

Leonie Thieme

Thank you :)

Daniel Juke

Just coming here to say that I know a lot of people are asking for miss Americana next but I genuinely do not think it’s necessary to do for the next set of albums, as long as you know that Joe was her boyfriend for those albums and that they wrote songs together for it, it should be fine. Miss Americana is very much a snapshot of reputation/lover era but I will not fault you for wanting to do it next if you just want to see her outside of her music sooner 😂

Jenny V

Hey English isn’t even my first language so i really have to relisten to understand 😂 and yeah i love how she incorporates things like her heartbeat. It really makes it personal and amazing

Isabella Peterson

Thank you for your input! I think I'm going to watch Miss Americana. From what I'm reading, it has songs from Reputation and other eras I'm not aware of yet. Whereas, The Long Pond Sessions, which would be coming up deal more so in the period I'm going in and give good insights into her personal life? I will absolutely watch Miss Americana. I'm just trying to not get confused with the schedule though lol

Daniel Juke

Her ACTUAL heartbeat?!? Omg she takes getting personal to another level! Feet in the Anti-Hero video lmfao and her heartbeat in this... she's so lovely lol. Thank you for giving me grace! I definitely will need it. I see myself more like she sees Travis, "a baller"... but I'm also into Aristotle haha. I'm aware of how smart she is and know that things will go over my head. Appreciate you!

Daniel Juke

Dennis I'm learning so much from all your comments. You have great insights with all these artists I'm checking out! Just want you to know I really appreciate it :)

Daniel Juke

we‘re here to support the deciphering :)

Martina Teich

Even that situation is so relatable! I'm sure we've all stuck around in relationships longer than we should because we are optimists by nature. We hope and we hope that the people we love will love us back, and also in the same way. Love is tough but worth it :) Thanks for the comment!

Daniel Juke

Thank you for being respectful in your disagreements :) I also appreciate your input, Camille but I'm going to continue in this order. I'll definitely get to Miss American though. Thanks! :)

Daniel Juke

This is where my reverse schedule makes it a little difficult to decipher lol. We'll be going forward in time soon

Daniel Juke

That would break my mind hearing Jack say that. It definitely seems to be about their relationship. I guess those feelings could be fleeting right? Or they were bubbling up for a while lol

Daniel Juke

Yes, Taylor has said that she has an actual lists of words that she likes the sound of in her phone and will come back to when writing.

JoAnn Burrage

I highly recommend listening to Renegade by Big Red Machine before moving to Evermore. Fits very well within the Joe breakup timeline.

Ilka van Schalkwyk

some of the same concepts can be seen in so long, london from TTPD which is one of the few songs on that album to be widely assumed to be about joe. (eg “how much sad did you think i had” & “how long can we be a sad song” ; “died on the altar waiting for the proof” & “and i wouldn’t marry me either” ; “i stopped cpr after all it’s no use” & “i can’t find a pulse, my heart won’t start anymore”/the heartbeat in the background)

Lauren S

this song is widely assumed to be about her long term relationship w/ joe alwyn and was released shortly after their breakup in spring 2023. then randomly one day jack antonoff revealed she wrote the song in 2021 which sent swifties into a spiral at the thought of her feeling this way for YEARS😭

Lauren S

„how long could we be a sad song“ is probably a direct callback to Joe Alwyn, him and Taylor worked together on a couple songs during covid, which appear on folklore and evermore, like „exile“ which are indeed very sad songs.

Martina Teich

this song is most most likely about joe alwyn and their breakup. looking back to your reaction for ttpd, in loml she said “you shit-talked me under the table, talking rings and talking cradles” and in so long, london she wrote “you swear the you loved me, but where were the clues, i died on the alter waiting for the proof”…. and in this song, sort of like a foreshadowing to ttpd if you will, she says “i would’nt wanna marry me either, a pathological people pleaser”… it only leaves us to suspect that tay really wished to settle down with joe and get married, and that might be one of the main contributing factors to their breakup 🥹 (only speculating based on song lyrics ofc, we don’t and will never know what really happened between them)

Leonie Thieme

Taylor’s heartbeat personalizes the lyrics even more and creates the dramatic ending. When the heartbeat stopped, the relationship had taken its last breath, and she stayed committed until the very end. Great song! If you get a chance, I’d love to hear your reaction to her song, Right Where You Left Me. 🌸 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur_wAcYDnuA

Jacqueline Goon

came here to say the exact same thing about her heartbeat!

monika

and something i just thought might be interesting to know for you moving forward with the reactions: like others have suggested in the comments, please watch miss americana next! it was filmed in the earlier years of taylor’s and joe’s relationship, while lover was being produced, and would just be so great to get to know her on a deeper level. also the timeline of joe and taylor’s relationship, which much of her lyrics likely focus around in her albums since reputation, is quite interesting to keep in mind: they started dating at the time she was starting to produce reputation in 2016/17. as we now know and have puzzled together with midnights and ttpd, their relationship likely already became rocky during the time evermore was in the works.. the timeline is kinda confusing, but her last couple of albums are so highly intertwined with her and joes relationship that i thought i’d mention that ☺️ love your reactions!!!

Leonie Thieme

this song was written during the time the other songs for midnights were written, but only released later as a so called “vault track” of that period in time, most likely because the breakup from joe wasn’t public or hadn’t happened. the heartbeat is in fact her own heart beat! :)

Leonie Thieme

By the way, if you decide to do Miss Americana before "folklore", that'd be great too. Miss Americana is entirely about getting to know Taylor, and it won't majorly spoil any music for you. It'll likely answer all of your questions about her though.

Dennis Roberts

This song is believed to be about her last relationship with Joe Alwyn and was realeased just after the announcement of them breaking up. The heart beat in the background is her heart beat. And I 100% agree with Camille in that making a change and do Miss Americana next it will give you a lot of understanding. As well if I can suggest make sure you listen to the album folklore first before watching the Lond Pond Studios Sessions. Other wise the order you previously stated I think you nailed. It is much appreciated from someone who has been listening to her and fan since the beginning that you will wait for her to own her masters before listening to those albums...on behalf of all swifties we thank you. Also be sure to add the Eras Tour Concert to your list...it does not include TTPD as the movie was released before the album but there is hope we will get something from her released with it as it is a beautiful masterpiece of art on stage.

Sammantha McIlvenna

The heartbeat is her heartbeat btw. Its a recordning of it that she has used in the past for another song. I just adore watching your reactions and its okay to not understand everything at once. Sometimes it takes me a few listens aswell and i’ve followed her half my life. And we’re happy to help you

Isabella Peterson

I respectfully disagree with this. Because as much as you get to see her personality in it its also full of reputation and lover content and should be watched around that era. I do see what you’re saying but i think evermore and folklore can be explained a lot if he watches the long pond sessions and doesn’t really need miss americana for context. Although it is a great insight to her personality for sure ☺️

Isabella Peterson

For future reference, the robotic effect is called a vocoder and it's actually completely different from AutoTune. A vocoder turns a vocal into a synthesizer. So, basically, Jack Antonoff played her vocal as chords on the vocoder, and that's why it sounds like robotic harmonies. It's a really cool instrument! 😊 I'm glad you're not beating yourself up about not getting everything right away haha. Interpreting things on your own, then looking into the lore is the fun part of her music! When "folklore" came out, Swifties were joking that it should've come with a dictionary bc of the vocab she was using! 🤣

Dennis Roberts

This song was initially only on one of the cd version and we all begged to have it on streaming, so she gave it to us. The song is about her 6 year relationship with Joe alwyn, we thought she wrote this when she broke up with Joe but apparently it was written in 2021 and she still stayed with Joe for at least 2 more years but it’s so sad to think this is how she felt even as early as 2021. It seemed like they became complacent and comfortable and Taylor wanted more, she seemed to have really wanted to get married and he didn’t, there’s a lot of references to marriage in ttpd. This song also is directly referenced a lot to so long London from ttpd! So here’s a few lyrical parallels between the two songs: you’re losing me: ‘My heart won't start anymore For you’ So long London: ‘I stopped CPR, after all it's no use The spirit was gone, we would never come to’ You’re losing me: ‘My face was gray, but you wouldn't admit that we were sick’ So long London: ‘Thinkin, how much sad did you think I had Did you think I had in me?’ ‘And I'm just getting color back into my face’ You’re losing me: ‘And I wouldn't marry me either A pathological people pleaser Who only wanted you to see her’ So long London: ‘You swore that you loved me but where were the clues? I died on the altar waiting for the proof’

Jenny V

For your journey I would make a change and do the Miss Americana documentary next. It’s on Netflix. It will help you understand her better as a person and better appreciate the albums you listen to next. Love your reactions!
