Bretonians have been historically a matriarchal society. In Bretonian ancient times, tribal leaders ascended to power through military conquest. Being bigger and stronger than their male counterparts set Bretonian women apart. Even at those times, men and women had equal rights. To this day, women still hold a majority of tribal leadership roles. Despite that, Bretonian women do not see their men as any less capable, and Bretonian men aren't any less confident with their cultural position.
Reputation
Bretonian’s reputation for being barbaric troublemakers is widely exaggerated. They might be fierce tribal warriors that never back down from a fight but they also rarely are the ones starting those fights. They are hardworking individuals with peace and prosperity being important goals for them. With an old tradition of working the soil and herding beasts, they’ve turned their homeworld from a desolate tundra into a lush agricultural heaven. Becoming the biggest exporters of food products in the explored galaxy. Through their infrastructure expertise, Bretonians have also been fundamental to the construction of mega structures throughout consortium space.
