Project Oasis Month 1 Recap

Here is a recap of the first month of the project and some of the plans for next month.

First I would like to thank the patrons for choosing to support the game this early. One of my first Patreon goals was to get people to subscribe to those first 10 promotional spots, which happened. I consider that an early success, even if a small one. The game is not yet in the most presentable shape so your support this early is much appreciated.

Recap

This month I focused on building the core systems and mechanics the game is going to need moving forward. I tried to build these systems in a way that would be easy to expand upon. For example, the weapons systems already has support for semi-automatic, fully automatic, and charge weapons as well as hit-scan and projectile collision detection underneath its hood. Although not the fastest way to start developing a game I find this approach to pay off in the long run, especially for a scalable project on Patreon.

I also started work on character art, starting with the antagonists due to their designs being more distinct and they being beeg ladies. I still hope to polish up their anatomy sculpt this month so I can focus on getting them in-game next month.

Coming up

In the next month, I hope to finish up the Bretonian’s armor and have their model in the game. I also want to start working on a human protagonist. Since no significant Patreon voting took place this month, I will be doing a vote to decide the protagonist's background this month. This way we can start creating the protagonist together, which will also influence their gameplay style.

I also would like to polish and rework a few mechanics in the game. Starting with making the enemy AI more exciting to fight and polishing the melee system to give more options to both enemies and the player.
