So, I personally like the dynamic range of the images especially with for example the glaring brightness of the window and the character in the foreground. I try my best to keep lighting realistic, but can totally understand what you mean. It does come at the cost of making it physically difficult to spot the details. It also makes a gigantic difference what screen you're using to look at them. On my old LCD dark areas are just black, on my calibrated HDR main screen it looks great, on my OLED phone it looks nice too. I really hope they are not giving you too much trouble!
