Random Ramblings - Learning how to use new assets with "a day at's" packs

Okay since A LOT of you liked the last post - here's another. And this one focuses in on learning how to work with new asset packs. I've spent probably 100s, if not then over 1000 hours learning how to make maps....a lot of time! However, each time I add a new asset pack to the collection, I need to learn how it works. With Skront's packs, I can generally get it quite quickly, although with a COMPLETELY new artist's assets, I find it harder and it's like I go back to the beginning.

An Introduction to "a day at"

First off, I wanted to talk about 'a day at', a modern/post-apocalyptic asset and battlemap creator, and also one of my good friends! Each of her releases leaves me in awe, each release contains SOOOOO much work, love and labour put into it and I just wanted to say how cool I think she is.

If you love her content as much as I do, then I would highly suggest checking out all of her content here!

I also have a special discount code for 20% off your first month. This includes all of "a day at's" tiers. The code is:

175F4

This code is valid for the next two weeks, but I would be sure to take advantage of it when you can. If you need help with using these codes, check out the guide here. I would definitely say from getting to have a play around with only THIS piece of content it is already worth it. XD

Modular Room Designs

One of the key things I wanted to look into is the modular rooms assets from the "Thorough GM tier" - which I feel is super beneficial for DMs looking to save time on mapmaking. There are SO many options and I just ended up getting sucked into decision paralysis when testing them out.

The best thing about them is the fact that you can just add assets on top of them, like I did with these boxes in the southern part of the garage.

As I mentioned above, there are a LOT of rooms to choose from and in the timelapse video you can see me playing around with all of the different options with walls/doors that make sense. However, the beauty in the fact that they are assets is that you can just put walls and doors on top of them and ignore their preset locations. On top of this, you can just add assets too. :)

Terrains and Roads

I REALLY love the modular streets pack - it was so easy to pull out an appropriate road and line it up on the map as a path. Amusingly, I struggled to find the curb path more than once, which is part of the difficulty with learning how to use new assets - my brain was thinking "pavement", "sidewalk", "path" - "WHAT IS IT?!?!". Curb - curb makes sense - that's what we call it in the UK.

This is one of my biggest struggles with new packs - not knowing how things are organised, which I think most can relate to. Each artist pack I work with makes sense, when I know how its organised. From there, it's pretty simple. XD

Free Mini Release

Well I've made a map - now it's time to share! Just a reminder that these are A day at's assets, I just made the map. XD

Testing out "a day at" assets/modular rooms - JPGs, DD2VTTs, and mini FoundryVTT Pack

Enjoy!

Genuinely - a day at is definitely in the top list of creators I would recommend. Both their maps and assets are wonderful and I'm in love! :D

I'd be happy to answer your question and hope snowy doesn't mind ^^ They are available as Dungeondraft packs as well as pngs (in 100 and 300ppi resolutions) so they can be used in other programs as well :)

a day at

This seems interesting. Is the asset pack just for dungeon pack, or could you use it with other map programs?
