Half Sisters - Episode 54

Sandy has to choose whether to help push Nikki into femininity. Meanwhile, Nikki has to navigate a traffic stop as a pretty young woman with a driver's license that says she's not!

Phew! This episode is another long one - almost a double episode - and now my brain is kinda fried. But I had a complete "thought" I wanted to finish during the switchover from Sandy to Nikki. 💕

I can't wait to get these two girls back together. Season 2 was about their growth while separate, but they have so much to learn from each other!

I can't wait to hear what you think!

Aw, thank you so much, Nina! Totally understand how sometimes binging works best - and I try to make the narratives connect in a way that makes the story feel like a TV show. Hope that comes through!

Emory Ahlberg

And poor Nikki has a lot of incoming drama!

Emory Ahlberg

oh wait i caught up! ahhhhhh emory! i’m so hooked and i want more!!! this is why i can’t binge i get antsy! fantastic reads for the months i couldn’t, super thrilled to read this story again and see your skill at both art and storytelling shine through!

Nina

ruh row, but yesssssss! back to nikki! i love her!

Nina

Thanks, Gemma! You're absolutely right about how this plays into Kendra's internalized misogyny. Ken/Kendra still views being female as inherently inferior, which makes this "punishment" all the more devastating. It's not just about the physical changes, but about the complete loss of status and power in their own eyes. Basically, Ken's toxic masculinity and misogyny are now being turned against Kendra. She is now experiencing firsthand the very attitudes she once perpetuated. Obviously, this is what Xu intended.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Robert! 😊 Xu is a master at creating situations where people feel they have a choice, but in reality, both options serve his purposes. In his chess game he likes to think he's always several moves ahead! Thank you for noticing the facial expressions! I put a lot of effort into trying to convey the characters' emotions through their faces, especially in those pivotal moments. Yeah, poor Sandy... She had a taste of normalcy and happiness, only to be pulled back into the dark world of Second Dawn. But perhaps that experience will give her strength as she faces what's to come!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, CK! 💖 Your analysis is absolutely spot-on, as usual. I love how deeply you're thinking about the characters and their potential paths forward. Yeah, Sandy's approach to helping Nikki could be a major turning point in their relationship. The dilemma Sandy faces - whether to be fully honest with Nikki about the situation or to try to manipulate things behind the scenes - is a really crucial one. As you noted, both approaches have their potential benefits and drawbacks. I think you're very perceptive in predicting that Sandy might initially choose the less direct route. Your 'Avengers' comparison made me laugh - who knows, maybe we'll see a team-up of all our feminized friends taking on Second Dawn someday! 😉 I'm so glad you're enjoying the complexity and potential of the Xuniverse. You're right that we're still relatively early in the overall story, despite the length so far. There's so much more to explore! Honestly, I love your idea about mini-episodes or short stories set in the Xuniverse. That could be a great way to introduce new readers to the world and flesh out some of the side characters and elements we don't always get to focus on in the main story!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Elrod! Nikki is at a crucial crossroads. The threat of being "reprogrammed" at Clinic 12 is very real, and it's a terrifying prospect. But telling Nikki the truth will probably only make her more stubborn. Sandy and the others will definitely have their work cut out for them in trying to help her adapt without A) breaking her spirit or B) making her retreat into her old persona even more! Sandy will have to tread very carefully in how she approaches this. Her own experiences might help her understand what Nikki is going through, but their situations are also quite different. I love your insight about the potential for Nikki to view complete reprogramming as a form of "character suicide" that might seem preferable to voluntarily changing. That's a really powerful and tragic possibility! 😬

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Pedro! I'm so happy you enjoyed the episode. By your suggestion, do you mean release more episodes per month?

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Phoebe! 💖 Yes, Mrs. Ferris was surprisingly open. I think she's realizing that honesty might be the best policy if she wants to keep Sandy's trust - which has become very important to her. Kendra is in a precarious position. The irony of her situation isn't lost on her, and you're right that she's basically dying inside. But anything is better than staying with Davis! But Mortimer will have his hands full keeping her in line, that's for sure! I'm glad the reveal of Nikki's new license had the impact I was hoping for! It really drives home how thorough and calculating Hutchinson is. He's thought of everything, hasn't he? And good catch on the motorcycle license - although it could also be a moped! 😉 You're right to be worried about what's coming in those two weeks. Hutchinson isn't known for his patience or gentleness. And Nikki isn't known for being flexible! And yes, those were indeed Sandy's impressions of Lauren and Evie! She's piecing together what she knows from Nick's emails. She did pretty good, I think lol. As for Jessica and Nikki spending time together - I want that, too!

Emory Ahlberg

Emory I was just reading again Mortimer’s interactions with Kendra. What clever dialogue. I love how it highlights both the physical and psychological levels in which Mortimer undermined and unsettled Kendra. How, following the physical threat and reminders around what she needs to do to stay alive. I just love the psychological ‘coup de grace,’ contained in his last stinging remark, “why you’d want to ( live) is beyond me.” This psychological attack on Kendra’s personhood would, I imagine, have totally unsettled her and deep seeded misogyny that lies within her. Highlighting Ken’s permanent loss of his manhood and associated shame and subjugated sense of worth and self (at least in Ken/Kendra’s eyes), that she feels around now and forever being stuck in this ‘inferior form’ of being female.

Gemma

If readers want to know more about Kendra's backstory, perhaps a one-shot will be made! He was despicable to her, unsurprisingly.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Gemma! I'm really glad you noticed that detail on Nikki's new license. You're absolutely right - the "F" under sex is a huge deal, and it's definitely going to have a major psychological impact on Nikki. Her new license is a significant escalation in Hutchinson's efforts to cement her new identity. It's not just how she looks or dresses anymore - now there's an official document declaring her to be female! How will she react? That's the big question. Will seeing herself officially labeled as female push her further into resistance? Or will it start to chip away at her resolve, making her wonder if fighting is even possible anymore? Hutchinson is definitely flexing his power and influence here. He's showing Nikki (and us) just how far his reach extends and how thoroughly he can alter her life, if he so chooses.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, Bos! You're right that Hutchinson is quite a despicable character - your comparison to Mr. Davis is apt, as they share some similar toxic traits. Fun casting suggestion of Doug Hutchinson! He'd definitely capture that sinister energy.

Emory Ahlberg

It needs to be seen and clarified more definitely around Zach’s sexuality (it fluency etc,). Is it that Zach is into men or is it more the case that Zack is and always has been into Nick/ Nikki, no matter what package he/ she comes in?

Gemma

Another scintillating chapter, Emory, once again with so much going on for all the characters, including Kendra as a new player. What’s intriguing is that everyone finds themselves playing a high stakes game, but whatever they themselves may think, it’s not of their own choosing - it’s a subset of a game that Xu wants them to play. In each case he’s given them a choice of sorts, but both options are unpalatable. He remains as devious and evil as ever. The other main comment I’d like to make is about the outstanding quality of the art, especially the facial expressions, particularly those of Sandy and Kendra, the former as the full realisation of the profound nature of Kendra’s changes dawns on her, and secondly as the hopelessness of the choices Mrs Ferris offers her to assist Nick/Nikki. Sandy has enjoyed an all too brief idyll with Josh and is now about to be plunged back into the full horror of a Second Dawn nightmare if she wants to help her friend. Your plotting is masterly, Emory. Chapeau! xx

Robertlouis

It'll be interesting where this whole "get Nikki to accept things' effort goes. Like it's one thing to get her to be comfortable with being a woman but Zach is into men and Nikki is into women. Does anyone other than Zach, Nikki, and Hutchinson realize the real situation here? Even if Hutchinson sends Nikki back to Xu and they reprogram her that isn't going to make Zach straight. I wonder what Xu will think of Hutchinson if he finds out that Hutchinson has unrealistic expectations.

non anon

I agree Nolwenn. I also hope that Nikki ( or is it Nichole now) does not become too curvy and bottom heavy. She already has such a pretty face and this with her slim build that is so devoid of muscle and bulk already makes her look so feminine.

Gemma

I think there is a turning point coming between Nikki and Sandy, depending on how Sandy approaches Mrs. Ferris' (and Xu's) suggestion/warning with Nikki. If Sandy's plan, as it seems, is just to talk to Nikki's friends so that they will help Nikki "wrestle" with her inner conflict without telling them the truth, and she does not explain to Nikki how the situation really is (Hutchinson's ultimatum to Xu and Xu's ultimatum to Mrs. Ferris). There will inevitably come a time when Nikki finds out, and this creates a difficult rift to bridge between the two. If, on the other hand, Sandy is honest with Nikki (as, surprisingly, Ms. Ferris was with her, which helped Sandy evolve and grow personally, and helped her accept her changes), I think the tiny distance that still remains between them will close and make them both stronger... and they can begin to "run" their own lives and "get even" or put their current... and future enemies in their place. From where the story is at, I think Sandy will choose the first option, which will create a bit more chaos, drama, angst and why not - fun, before getting to the second option, which I think is where the story will go in an 'Avengers' kind of way hehehe.... ...But that's my way of thinking, I don't have the wonderful and twisted mind of Emory, who never stops leaving us wanting more, episode after episode and series after series, and leaving us with our mouths open with the amazing art of her pictures. What I do know is that, as I said in the last episode, there is sooooo much more to come, I think even though the story is over 1000 pages long, I think we are still at the beginning of the story! That's the thing about having created this incredible Xuniverse in such a meticulous and well-structured way, that it can feed back and be so diverse and infinite, starting from the same premise, because of the different and multiple paths that can be taken. PS: I think, taking the new 'Anywhere But Boring' short story format as an example, if you were to create mini-episodes or mini-stories of the Xuniverse, which I think can be very expansive: meet other Platinum Star members, toys, companions, handlers, staff, side characters, facilities, etc..... You could hook new subscribers who have a hard time getting started by first seeing the extensive main series, and create the "bug" for them to want to know these main stories. Of course, this does not rule out creating new stories that have nothing to do with the Xuniverse. Just a suggestion!

ckarya

Thank you so much, Ella! 💕 I'm really glad you're enjoying Kendra! The contrast between her former life and current situation definitely adds a whole new layer of complexity to the dynamics in the Ferris household! They could be a (weird) sitcom! 😉 And you're right about Nikki - things are definitely about to get more complicated for her! This has been one hell of a day already! Poor girl can't seem to catch a break!

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks again, Richard! You're right that if she played up the "shopping with the girls" angle, it might help soften Hutchinson's approach... at least temporarily. The tricky part is that Hutchinson is difficult to predict. As you noted, he might see any progress as a sign to push even harder. He's the type who always wants more, faster. And unfortunately for Nikki, he's not known for his patience or empathy. So will Nikki try to appease Hutchinson to avoid harsher treatment? Or will she continue to resist, even if it means potentially facing worse consequences? 🤔

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Richard!! You know, originally, I was just thinking of the "official" version of the name Nikki, but you're absolutely right that there's a subtle but important difference in how the Nikki / Nicole names are perceived! I love your observation about how "Nicole" feels more appropriate for the athletic yet feminine young woman she could become. 😊 We'll have to see if and when she reaches that point of fully embracing a new identity. For now, she's still very much struggling with who she is and who she's being forced to be.... and the scary part for her is figuring out which is which!

Emory Ahlberg

A little of both at this point, Thomas! 😉

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, S.C.! 💖 I really appreciate your thoughtful comment. Hutchinson is definitely treading on thin ice here. He seems to think he can do whatever he wants without consequences, but he might be in for a rude awakening if he pushes things too far with Nikki. Xu is a sociopath, but he doesn't like to waste potential with violence. And, yeah, I completely get your empathy for the girls in this story given your own experience. I'm there with you. 🫂 The girls' experiences and feelings on what's happening to them are (hopefully) complex, and I aim to portray that rather than simplifying or glorifying their struggles. One has to wonder if the reason Sandy has adapted relatively well is because she didn't have to go through the hell of being kidnapped / Clinic 12. Hopefully she can help impart that to Nikki - although Hutchinson may be about to undo all the positives of the trip to the mall... 😬

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Maggie! 💕 Haha, yes, Kendra definitely needs to be more careful - Mortimer has eyes and ears everywhere! And you're right, he'll be keeping her on a very short leash - maybe literally! 😉 I'm so glad you like Sandy's expressions! And you're very sweet about Sandy's increasing beauty - I think she's really coming into her own and growing more confident... Ooh, interesting theory about Nikki and her past! You might be onto something there... And wow, that's quite the threat against Hutchinson! 😂 You're very protective of Nikki. But don't worry too much - she's tougher than she looks. Still, Hutchinson would be wise to tread carefully!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Gemma! 💕 I'm so happy you enjoyed the chapter. Yes, Kendra's struggle and underlying resistance are definitely fun elements and her relationship with Mortimer is BEYOND fraught. Mrs. Ferris is indeed a master manipulator, and I love the developing dynamic between her and Sandy! For me, it's fascinating to see how they're influence each other. Poor Nikki's learning quickly about the harsh realities of her new life...but Sandy can show her that there's joy to be had, too!

Emory Ahlberg

You could improve the time you release episodes so you would get more subscribers. This episode was really good.

Pedro

Well, Sandy turned out to be quite a little schemer here! Of course, she's only doing it to protect Nick, which is understandable. Mrs. Ferris was quite a bit more forthcoming about everything than I expected, too. And of course, we knew Kendra wouldn't take this change in station gracefully, even if it is an improvement over being Davis' enslaved trophy wife. But I imagine living in your own house as a servant while your ex-wife flaunts your former wealth is almost an equal form of torture, for someone like Ken. She's almost certainly going to cause problems for someone in the future, even with Mortimer around to keep her in line. Meanwhile, that last shot of Nikki's new license really does slam that whole segment home. Of course, we should have known Hutchinson would have a plan. Can't have his son's "girlfriend" found out or under any suspicion. But still... seeing the full legal name "Nicole Palmer", the signature, that very important "F" marker... all on an ID that Nikki presumably had no idea existed. Insidious as hell! (I'm also amused that it's apparently a motorcycle license, specifically. We've got ourselves a potential beauty queen, cheerleader, AND biker babe here.) I'm more than a little worried about what's going to happen in those next two weeks before that email Sandy mentioned. Hutchinson holds all the... well, card, at the moment. I doubt he's just going to give her an easy way out of any embarrassing situations in the future without some demands. Final shout-out to what I assume were Sandy's mental images/impressions of Lauren and Evie, lol. I can't believe I didn't consider Sandy knows about their little shopping trip. Evie's already 100% sure Nikki's a trans girl and Lauren's somewhere in the 30% and growing range, maybe, on top of already being in charge of helping her pass at school. It's a solid plan to convince them she just needs a little gentle encouragement. And we do still need to see Nikki and Jessica spend time together at some point!

Phoebe Nocturne

As was hinted by Xu, it seems that things are going to take a bad turn for Nikki - her fate hangs in the balance. Resist, and be brainwashed into oblivion, or try to go along, giving up part of her sense of self. The question is whether Sandy and company can break through Nikki's shell of defiance without breaking her spirit in the process. In Ep 55, will Nikki be confronted with a threat? Will she be told to adapt - or else? And will she be told what the 'or else' is? Perhaps she might think it's a threat to dad or mom - and that could very well be implied, or bluntly stated. In trying to help her, will Sandy be able to, or dare to, tell Nikki the truth about the threat? If her defiance is too strong, Nikki might just say 'f it' - being 'reprogrammed and having her personality, thoughts, dreams, hopes all erased might be a form of character suicide that she feels might be better than voluntarily giving up what she thought was a fundamental part of who she was. In that case, Sandy and company would need to recognize her self-destructive bent and persuade her that it isn't hopeless, that THAT way out is the worst choice she could make. Good stuff, as usual, and so many different ways the plot could develop. Well done.

Elrod W

Nice episode. About kendra, I think the intervention with mortimer was too fast. It could have been an interresting part of of the story or become a spin-off. ( a little like " pinky and the brain" or " iznogoud" ( a french comics) Great that nikky came back. I really like her. But personnaly i hope she lose some weight. I prefere her with less feminin form. I really don't want a second jill.

Nolwenn

Will we know the story what davis has done to kendra?

Andreas

In providing feedback Emory on such an epic and action filled chapter I failed to talk about the final image you created - Nikki’s new license in Hutchinson’s hand. She looks so pretty and initially i was so focussed on her picture that I forgot to comment on the not so minor detail at the bottom of Nikki’s new license confirming her new gender as female. This new license and identity verification Hutchinson has acquired for Nikki certainly reveals his power and influence. This new license also locks Nikki even further into her new, and now more official identification as being a female. I wonder how she will respond to seeing her new license and what impact this will have on her psychologically?

Gemma

Apologies for the late reply, my dearest muse Emory. Where do I even actually begin with this work of art? Please correct me...gently...if I'm wrong. First Off: EWW, Hutchinson you homophobic, hypocritical piece of garbage. They say great minds think alike and when I see him, I see him as a milder version of the even more loathsome and monstrous Mr. Davis...who ironically enough should be played by the actor Doug Hutchinson. Him playing Eugene Victor Toombs in the X-Files (sometimes the price for eternal life can be quite gruesome indeed), Percy Wetmore in the Green Mile and James "Lonny Bin Jim" Russoti in Punisher Warzone. Just re-watched your Second Dawn movie, poster my muse.

Alex From the Tri-Cities

I really enjoy watching the new character, Kendra! Seeing her work as a maid in her old house highlights the terrific contrast created by her new situation. And it looks like Nikki's life is about to get more complicated; poor her, lucky us! 😊

Ella Cherry

I'm sure Hutchinson was pleasantly surprised with Nikki's attire. Now all she has to do its talk about spending all day clothes shopping to pick up things for a date with his son with her Miss Texas mother and some girls from school and he can abandon whatever terrible things he's planning, because she's clearly making progress. Or at least go a bit easier on her. Though maybe he's the type of guy to lean into something harder if he thinks its giving him the results he wants....

Richard Head

Nikki returns! Or is it Nicole now? She's sure to protest, but I think it suits here quite well. I think there's some great implications for the development of her identity with this change too, because even though the difference between the names seems small, the name Nikki strikes me as more masculine than Nicole. Nikki could be unisex (when you hear it), but Nicole is purely feminine. Nikki seems more appropriate for a tomboy, but Nicole seems more right for the athletic, but still feminine, young woman she's on the path to becoming. Once she stops thinking of herself as Nick or Nikki, and starts thinking of herself as Nicole, that will be the signal that she's fully embraced herself as herself.

Richard Head

Oh boy. Or should I say... girl.

Thomas Tolliver

Sandy on board to help Nikki go femme so she doesnt face the hell that is Second Dawn again. Check. Cops being bastards, unfortunately check. Hutchinson being a worse bastard, check. Hutchinson better not fucking touch Nikki or Im going to have to assist Maggie in delivering him to Grandmother trussed in a bow. Nikki has been through hell and deserves much better. I know that is the point of force femme, as Ive read "the literature" for ages. My empathy is always with the girls though since Ive known I was a girl from a very young age. Yes I want my transition to have been with the super hormones from a young age like Nikki but I would not put up with that kind of hell she had to go through. My own transition was not an easy road at all, but the girls on Xu's various islands have it about a billion times worse than I had to go through.

SingularCurve

Oh WOOOW ❣️❣️❣️ Love this chapter... I can't believe Kendra was sooo stupid to speak out loud her thoughts hahaha. Thanks for, Morty was nearby... That guy has 6th sense... keeping Kendra on short leash was a good/right call man... I love the "WTF" facial expression on Sandy's face on page 8 hahaha... Oh... Sandy, Sandy, Sandy... idk what... is it the light or something, but every time I see you, you are more beautiful than before... like there is no limit for your charm... About helping Nikki... I see you'll assemble great team... I see you've a plan... NICE... but for some unexplainable reason... I suspect that completing that given task will be weirdly simpler than expected... WHY you may ask? I just feel it... it has something to do with distant past of Nick And Nikki OMFG Nikki... those lesbian torn jeans fit you like a glove girl... ❣️ As for you you old nasty prick.... don't you dare touch Nikki, If even one hair falls from her head because of you.... I guarantee you this, you will be visited by some old woman from the UK, whose hobby will be your biggest nightmare.... Mr. Xu next to this old hag is an innocent kid. When she is done with you and you will still be alive surprisingly... you'll regret that you didn't turn yourself in as a volunteer for Mr. Xu.

Maggie Heels

Fantastic chapter Emory. So many exciting elements to be further unpacked and developed. So nice to witness the underlying existence of Kendra’s smouldering and unbridled spirit that is still present within her. I also do so love the tentative hold onto the delusional like belief that she will find a way back to “be a man again.” Kendra’s underlying resistance makes her character more appealing. The threat of Mortimer just adds to the developing juicy dynamics. Mrs Ferris certainly has a silver tongue. It did not take her long to hook Sandy into engaging her in fast tracking Nikki’s feminisation. Very interesting also to see how clever Sandy is to come up with the scheme of recruiting some of Nikki’s new ‘girl friends’ to help her achieve her goal. It was also interesting to learn how Sandy has become Mrs Ferris’s road to recovery and redemption after the tragedy of losing her daughter Sofia. I was so pleased in latter part of chapter and Nikki (my favourite character) finally making a reappearance. Love that she still falls into using her female voice. Wow, she certainly is learning quickly of the chauvinistic experiences she may be subjected to in life. Being seen as a sexual object and with no real recourse to deal with keys comments of the Cop as an authority figure. Like the way the Cop also engaged in gaslighting her when she attempted to challenge his sexual laden innuendo’s. Again you cheekily leave us with another cliff hanger. Thanks Emory.

Gemma

Thank you, Jade! 💕 Hutchinson is showing off his power to Nikki. This is the carrot. But the stick is coming very soon unless she starts behaving as he would like...

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Z! 💕 And yep! She's about to face a whole orchestra... The question is what impact it will have. She certainly doesn't seem to respond very well to threats or intimidation!

Emory Ahlberg

Kendra better watch that pert sassy mouth, or Mortimer is likely to gag her - and not in a fun, sexy way. I was a teeny bit surprised Hutchinson has fixed things with the local sheriff's department - well, not _totally_ surprised but I thought he might be enough of an asshole to let her sweat it out overnight in a lock up cell with a bunch of creepy drunks and bar rowdies.

Jade Diaz

LOL - I think you're right. He's a simple man, with simple pleasures. 😉 Thank you so much, Cry!

Emory Ahlberg

I feel like Mortimer is just happy he has someone new in the house that he can inject female hormones into again. But in other news, it looks like some things may be changing for Nikki. Good job, Emory. The art looks great as always.

Cryofly

Absolutely loveeee seeing Nicole slowly but certainly having to face the music. She could only stand her ground so long...
