Meet Mulan

The first protagonist of the "Dream Journal" era, which was initially just me writing down my dreams into coherent short stories, but has since blossomed into an AU that is stream of consciousness and, much like a dream, has a lot of retcons and stuff that doesn't quite add up, so I apologize in advance if you're a more "hard logic" sort of reader.

This character is a revival of my "Mulan" persona post-coma.

[The screen fades in to a pastel explosion—pink and lavender lights strobe behind boxing ropes. A funky chiptune version of an idol intro theme plays. Suddenly—BAM—cut to Mulan (Kotaro) jumping into frame, throwing double peace signs and winking with dramatic flair.]

🎤: "KONICHIWAAAAAA! It’s ya girl MULAN—your combat idol, trauma survivor, part-time snack hoarder, and full-time glitter-gloved chaos gremlin!" 💖🥊✨

[She points directly at the camera, then spins in a circle, causing one glove to fly off and hit the lens.]

🟪 ON-SCREEN QUESTION 1: “Wait... Isn’t ‘Mulan’ a Chinese name?”

Mulan: "UH—YES?? But listen, when I woke up from my coma, my brain said ‘Disney princess or BUST.’ Besides, Mulan is a warrior, right? I have annexed the name, and if China’s got a problem with that, they can fight me about it!"

[She flashes a huge grin and finger-guns at nothing in particular.]

🟪 ON-SCREEN QUESTION 2: “Are you a real fighter, or just doing this for the likes?”

Mulan: "Excuse you?! My knuckles are verified. Wanna see my follower count or the list of dudes I've emotionally devastated with a left hook? Either way, I’m a star, darling. ✨ Even my bruises get fan mail."

[She strikes a diva pose, then yells off-camera:]
"Yuki! Bring me my punchy playlist and bubble tea!"

🟪 ON-SCREEN QUESTION 3: “How did you get discovered by VFC?”

Mulan: "Okay okay—picture this. Me, in my pajamas. Midnight. Gym’s closed but I’m mad. Like ‘anime betrayal episode’ mad. Two sweaty dudes try to get smart. Five minutes later? One’s in a mop bucket, the other’s hugging a jump rope like it’s his mom. That’s when this VFC guy walks in and goes: ‘You’re hired.’ True story!"

[She mock-punches toward the camera and mouths: “Eat dirt, Kubo!”]

🟪 ON-SCREEN QUESTION 4: “So fighting is... your therapy?”

Mulan: "YUP. Some people paint. Some scream into pillows. I shadowbox until my inner demons tap out. Technically, it's anger management. Or, as I like to call it—‘punch-based emotional jazz.’"

[Cue her awkward air-punching like she’s in a girl band dance-off.]

🟥 ON-SCREEN QUESTION 5: “Why do you want to fight in the VFC tournament?”

Mulan (quietly): "Honestly? Because I lost myself."

"After the car crash... I was gone for almost a year. Coma. Dreams that didn’t make sense. When I woke up, I thought I was in someone else’s life."

[She looks down at her gloves, then forces a smile, almost cracked.]

Mulan: "My little sister came to see me... and I didn’t recognize her face. That broke something. I laughed. I cried. Then I got angry. At everything. At nothing. I needed to feel real again."

[She slowly brings her fists back up.]

Mulan: "And then one day—I hit a heavy bag so hard it split. And for a second... I felt like me again. So yeah, I want to fight. Not just for glory, not for fame—though like, I WILL take cute merch deals—but to prove I’m still in here. That I made it back. That I'm not just some glitch in a hospital bed’s memory."

[Her voice lifts again—stronger, cheekier.]

Mulan: "So let me into VFC. Let me fight with sparkles, trauma, and terrifying flexibility! I’m ready to make the ring my stage. And I promise..."

[She winks one last time, striking a final idol pose.]

Mulan: "...win or lose, I’ll be the main character. 💖”
