All high schoolers take the CSAT when they graduate and from what ive heard your results can really make or break your career/ life (maybe more so in the past). I believe that in Korea is it very normal to go to after school crams/ study session with a tutor and even have studying periods at school during the weekend. I think what the mother meant by if she was gonna throw a year away is about how much time, effort and hard work seungwan has put in to study to prep for CSAT, plus as a top student too. Also she probably has to wait even longer now that she has to take a GED first. Even if she transferred school idk how plausible it is given the fact that it could be a long process and the CSATs were a month away. On top of that she now has a permanent record of her dropping out of school which i think would be really hard for other schools to accept her even if it was all for the right reasons

I took the exam and got the certificate years ago so I can go to college since I’m already 18 when I came from the Philippines and the school here in California told me I was too old to be in high school so either I go to an adult school to get a diploma or take the GED. I took the easier route and took the exam.
