More/better content, free album, a message about Ember

Hi everyone!

Many great news for our Patron supporters to announce, including some changes and upgrades.

A change of direction for ambiences

Michael speaking.

So far, I've invested as much energy in ambiences albums than Patreon. I realized that, from a creative perspective, it's not ideal, and for a simple reason.

An album is a collection of 50 ambiences. I didn't want to create too many variations for a single track, however, as you can see on this Patreon, it's often very useful to have them.

For me, I always had to limit myself to max two variations of a same idea for albums. It had the effect of both :

When I was reviewing my to-do list the other day, I realized some requests from the community were variations of tracks from my first ambiences albums. It generated a conundrum: variations were meant to be uploaded on Patreon, but variations of album tracks should be on albums as they are already linked to albums...

Time to break the loop.

From now on, I'll forget these mental limits and focus on Patreon. I don't exclude making new albums (especially Sci-Fi/modern), but there's plenty available already and the interactions with you here or on Discord are making it more interesting. Also, it's much easier to collaborate with other artists if we focus on Patreon (in that regard, we'll make these collaborations more often. If you are a TTRPG content creator reading this : don't be shy, contact us!)

TLDR: Expect more audio diversity within the ambiences packs we release starting NOW.

Naturally, all the audio is also in our tool Opus.

Free album

Reminder than anyone subscribed as a Raven (5$) or higher tier before the 18th of September (my birthday) will receive a BONUS album on the 18th. The album is called "Fever Death Toll" and it's a Cthulhu mythos inspired short album (music). It features tracks that perfectly fit chases, eldritch dreams and such. After the date passed, it'll be on Bandcamp (not free) only so be sure to be subscribed at that time.

Ember

Here's a message from our friends at FoundryVTT. They are launching their own TTRPG game and system, as well as new technical features to support it!

Ember is an online tabletop roleplaying game of unprecedented scope from the creators of Foundry Virtual Tabletop. Ember is a game of open-world exploration in an imaginative fantasy setting featuring an epic-length campaign, groundbreaking features, and game systems designed for online play for a Gamemaster and group of players.

Ember is an online tabletop roleplaying game which is a hybrid between a tabletop RPG and a multiplayer digital game. It has all the elements of a traditional pen and paper RPG but is enhanced with features inspired by video games to create a compelling hybrid of dynamic gameplay and a classical foundation. It is a collaborative storytelling experience for a gamemaster and group of players. Ember has been made specifically to be played online in Foundry Virtual Tabletop and has a ton of additional features, systems, and mechanics to facilitate and enhance gameplay.

There are two ways to play Ember; using the familiar Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition ruleset or using the innovative digital roleplaying system Crucible developed exclusively for Foundry Virtual Tabletop.

Ember is live NOW on Kickstarter from September 3, 2024 until October 2, 2024. By supporting this Kickstarter campaign you will receive the full Ember game - added to your Foundry Virtual Tabletop user account - as soon as it is complete along with lifetime access to patches, content updates, and customer support.

Thanks a lot!

Oh, I wouldn't ask you guys to put everything on YT Music! It sucks, lol. I only use it for my private music library and it is Not Great for that, but it's basically the only Android option. And thank you, but I'm not really interested in Opus. :)

Alright! Thanks for your understanding, Nathan. I'm always looking for new ways to distribute our audio effectively. I'll keep my eyes peeled!

Michaël Ghelfi

Patreon always tries to submit my comments before i finish, i edited it, I said it’s hardly going to kill me

Nathan Birkholz

@Nathan : No, Bandcamp offers almost nothing in terms of features. The website didn't evolve for years. They offer no good API and no integration whatsoever. I don't understand your sentence : "It’s hardly going to kill" :)

Michaël Ghelfi

@KB Mhhh then I'd recommend switching to our tool Opus once we have the mobile app ready, so you aren't limited to 30% of our library and can benefit from plenty new features. Managing audio on mobiles has always been a pain. I wish I had a better solution for you. We can't put all of our audio on these streaming websites (Spotify, YT Music, ...). It's really far from paying the bills and force us to find another job. Also the overhead of uploading would require a team :'(

Michaël Ghelfi

It’s hardly going to kill me or anything lol. But it would be nice at least. What’s the timeline on Opus? I’m an iOS developer and now am curious

Nathan Birkholz

Is there a mechanism via bandcamp i wonder?

I have the same issue/reasoning, but on Android with YouTube Music. I uploaded the Patreon tracks so I could listen to them on mobile _once_, but it's a pain in the neck to do so repeatedly. I wish Patreon worked better with audio files.

KB

Yeah! But I play ambiences from my phone too. I just send them to a speaker

Nathan Birkholz

This only concerns ambiences albums, to be clear. We'll keep adding new music albums there.

Michaël Ghelfi

The only reason I prefer albums is they just are in Apple Music or Bandcamp and I play them from my phone. With Patreon, I have to go through a big dance to get them there so i never do.
