[Reality] Kingdom Ep 4 Reaction

Comments

This. lol I find their performances in Kingdom equally impressive if not they're somehow outdoing it.

Michelle Teves

I'm late but I love the cohesiveness of SF9 performance, I think they totally have a good balance of the whole elements of a performance. Still, It's so nice to read different perspectives.

kris

Agree. It felt like it just abruptly started when they cut out that entire intro part.

May

I really hope you watch the full version of The Boyz's performance because the version you watched feels like it started abruptly because they cut off the beginning dance part. I don't know why they did that because it was shown in the original broadcast even.

May

I think it is all about your taste of music. you need to understand hip hop is not a concept, hip hop is a genre of music. iKON is born as a hip hop group. They are stick with it bcs its their identity and their colors. And if you listen iKON's b-side track. iKON actually also did rock, jazz, and ballad. 😊

Dyah Tri Pitakoka

fuck i waited this for so long just to watch in my language and then watch your reaction just for the Boyz AND THEY CUT MY FAVORITE PART OF PERFORMANCE

doyoung's hat

My favorite performance this week was IKON's for exactly the same reasons. I love that the groups are challenging themselves and also inspiring each other. Each group is so different, which makes the stages all the more interesting to watch. I'm really hoping to be wowed by each as the show continues.

Phemeous G

I guess you don’t know SF9 that well yet when you didn’t expect those vocals from Rowoon. Rowoon is actually SF9‘s second main vocal next to Inseong

Sarah Zimmerli

I literally can see TBZ performance with my eyes closed, it was too good not to watch at least a few hundred times. And I definitely pick them as number one, the choreo and vocals were sick. They always try something new whereas ikon, for example, tend lean towards hip hop. There are only 2 (?) rounds left and I would like to see them do something different. I also liked sf9 performance, but it was a little too chaotic. Maybe they paid too much attention to the acting, but then again that was their concept for the stage so idk. I guess I need to rewatch it. My ranking so far: 1) The Boyz 2) Sf9 3) Ikon

delluna

Omg I agree with u with Ikon part and sometimes it seems that jeff is trying really hard not to upset us and to appreciate participants work and i understand that because I love all of them and I know how hard they are trying but we need to be objective because that’s the competition but again I know how hard it is to be strict.

jinkichimchim

I really love the interactions in this episode. Seeing ATEEZ and IKON interact like that just makes me smile! I can't wait to see how ATEEZ will reinterpret IKON's song. Nevertheless, I totally agree with you Jeff regarding the "acting" part, it should definitely be just an "enhancer" of the performance. It should not overpower the meat of the performance which should be singing & dancing. For this episode, my initial ranking is: 1-IKON | 2-TBZ | 3-SF9.

RedL

It kind of pissed me off that they had a RTK reunion yet all they talked about was the ranking / feeling like TBZ were 'lacking' somehow in Kingdom? It was a good opportunity to show how RTK had brought these groups a little closer (like the Hwanwoong/Juyeon friendship moments) and I'm sure there was a lot of that going on in the actual meeting, but what was presented to us as viewers was simply a narrative about TBZ' worries about somehow falling behind in Kingdom when in fact they've been doing so well

Layla123

Jeff, did you ever watch Queendom? Because the groups interact so much more there! There was an entire episode dedicated to choosing a performance partner and it was really interesting in seeing the dynamics.

Shay J

for me... ALL groups did well... they have their diff charms/strengths each perf.. but my fave probably would be Ikon's re-born. I LOVE THE ARRANGEMENT. i'd really put that in my playlist when they release this. i am not saying this just bcoz i am an atiny and yg stan.. but the song is my vibe and the type of music i listen. :)

pia_universe

I'm so frustrated The Boyz performance on viki cut out the entire first scene. I think it was an important introduction to the story of the performance, and also showed off Juyeon's incredible dancing! I'm looking forward to when Jeff watches the full performances at the end of the round to see his reaction and evaluation of the pairs dance.

ep9597

we care less about the fire thing but they care more bc they knew how hard it is and they practiced so much that's why they beat themslves up and that's just heartbreaking :(

Mesha ✌︎

THE BOYZ never fail to make me shook! loves their perf

Mesha ✌︎

when sangyeon said he "wants to die" bc he felt sorry for the members! it really broke me he still did an amazing job tho :(

Mesha ✌︎

Salsa maybe not, but Tango.. I mean, there´s no salsa base in the music and that´s why...

Cinthia Ojeda

Please watch the full version from this performances like you did last time because for example the first part in TBZ performance isn´t Juyeon singing ... The first part before Juyeon singing is what blew my mind, talking as a latin dancer who always dances with a partner

Cinthia Ojeda

Enjoyed this episode alot especially duraraa 😂 i'll gib my rank later after all performances done 😎

tsalis park

I didn't get a chance to make my opinions on The Boyz's performance with O Sole Mio by SF9, so here it is. For me, this song is not my favorite for SF9. I am happy they were willing to do something different that goes against what's expected with The Boyz, such as their hard-hitting dominance and sharp choreography. The concept was pretty interesting and I enjoyed seeing the small segment where one of The Boyz performed with the woman. It definitely reminded me of Checkmate of Road to Kingdom but done correctly when it comes to small claustrophobic spaces. There was the purpose and felt unique throughout the storyline/concept, while Checkmate's just felt a bit off or awkward. Like I said, SF9's song 'O Sole Mio' isn't my favorite song overall, but I am still happy they did something unique and showed different aspects of themselves.

Ryan The Biggest Dick Zandes

I´m so mad at The Boyz review when they said it was "disappointed for fans" when those people are "professionals" and they Must talk about the performance itself and not what fans would want or not. Like you did Jeff, you had four criterias to evaluate those performances, and your fanboy side was apart, that is how all competitions are supposed to be.

Cinthia Ojeda

Omg I agree with you so much about the vcr. I wished they showed more of the concept talk about their stages cuz I'm pretty sure there a lot to talk about, especially for the Boyz as a deobi, and other stage related behinds like the recording and bits of the dance practice. That's what I liked RTK vcrs cuz they focused more on the stage prep. I felt this for the previous episodes and specifically for this episode I feel like the PD focused way to much on the acting for Sf9. For the Boyz, I really hate how Mnet is trying to create a image that they're so lacking behind in kingdom when they have gotten fairly good results and have shown excellent stages. They try to make so much drama about "overcoming their burdens" and keep recalling back RTK way too many times. The only vcr that's was ok this week was ikon's. Also for example, missing the fire for the Boyz's stage, the PD always makes so much unnecessary drama out of failures. And this PD is so obsessed with calling acquaintances or outside ppl; it's fun enough with just the group itself or if u want interactions make more interaction between kingdom groups. Mnet is blocking all the companies from releasing behind vids for each group, but if they're gonna do that, why don't they show it in the actual show?? There r just so many things wrong with the editing in kingdom. No wonder all the Korean ppl say its boring.

빵빵이러버

I loved iKON performance this week! They totally understood the concept of RE-BORN and owned that song! I loved how I could recognize the original song in the verses but the chorus was totally iKON style. Also, kudos to them for not losing their own color after last round. I was afraid since they have this carefree style that isnt very popular in the competition, but they were able to keep their style and yet adapt to be more of what the judges and public of the show expected. SF9 really upped their game! It was like watching a movie and it was the best stage set and props in the round. The Boyz was amazing as allways. It was a pity that the fire went out too early, it was a great ideia and would have been an incredible moment in the performance.

Hiina

Agreed about YG. I think folks want them to go big and elaborate for their staging and I don't see it. Even when Treasure performs their stages aren't cluttered.

Erley

In regards of the sf9 performance I kinda disagree for me this is my fav performance of the show as of now l, I love how their incorporate one of the thing they are best at and I felt Like everything went into Place and had a flow so much That I feel Like I was watching a movie in just a 5 min performance. And more for the fact That they took this song and put That sf9 flavor That I love. It has great moments where their vocals, rapping and dancing were very noticable and along with their acting I felt it was a amazing performance overall. but this is just my opinion

Irving

oh that’s ok! we have our own preferences and this was just one go! i think maybe the cut to the reactions didn’t help the cohesion but i will watch the full ver and we’ll see if my opinion changes :)

seth james

it’s definitely difficult cause everyone’s top notch!

seth james

ya i might have to! haha

seth james

ohh there’s a scandal? oh man... :(

seth james

YESS. please take me with you! lol!

seth james

Okay so professional theater creator here again! I have the thoughts ^_^ SF9: Personally, I think this is SF9's best performance so far. I disagree about the acting being too much but only because that is something that SF9 is known for. Also, unlike Stray Kids last round they kept is all connected and flowing as opposed to broken up by cuts and different areas of the stage. They stayed together and kept it going without too many cuts without making the audience have to jump from one to another. They showed and performed with their own color and skills, something I was missing from them last round. Also, I like the rearrangement for the Stealer a lot. I think they did a great job incorporating good level changes, group choreo, and vocal moments that they missed out on before. We can really see their growth in this new environment for them because I think we really need to remember that idol groups very rarely use props and multi level stages for their work. This is something new to SF9 and several of the other groups so I'm glad to see them progress in their own skills! Overall, 8.5/10 The Boyz: Definitely the best performance of the episode, but personally for me only by a small margin. THE ARRANGEMENT THO!!!!!! I'm in love with it!!!! The style of what they did with this performance was somehow completely new and yet so the Boyz. It reminded me a lot of what I felt when they did Danger on rtk because both of these performances focus on songs I know really well but at the same time made them purely The Boyz's performance rather than just copying/imitating the original. (Tbh, all the groups have done that so far this round but it really hit me for this stage) Overall I think they had a good balance but I still think the tango moments, while gorgeous and so well done didn't really flow into the rest of the stage as well. I'm glad they had them for the stage but idk if they were actually necessary in the end. Overall, 9/10. iKon: I'm sorry, I really really really wanted to like this stage and performance but there's also a reason why I never became a full blown iKonic; I'm not that big into the YG sound. To me, this felt too much like a mushing together of an iKon song with the og Inception. It didn't flow together the way I think it should have. However, the performance was incredible!!!! I loved how they incorporated the individual moments along with the full group choreo on the chorus. Not to mention the consistency that iKon has in being true to their own sound and vibe. I so respect and praise them for it, even if it ends up not really being my thing. And Bobby's verse just *chefs kiss* The man NEVER misses tbh, I'm so glad he's an Ateez fan now! (Mingi/Bobby collab one day hopefully?!?!?!?!) Overall, 8/10. One last thing I'd like to say because it stayed on my mind until the end of the episode is that you, Jeff, feel like you are becoming less objective as you become a fan of groups. I personally haven't felt that way and it's part of why I keep coming back and viewing/subscribing/commenting on your content. It makes me so happy to see professional opinions on stuff that the professional commenting on is a fan of, because to me that makes it an even stronger and more reliable commentary. Never change, we as your subscribers stay here for that truthful shit! Keep killing the game and I can't wait until next week's episode! 😊😊😊😊😊😊

Samantha

just wanted to add that in tbz’s performance there was an entire like 20 second tango at the beginning that was cut out from the episode! idk why they cut it out but i hope you watch it! it’s in the youtube full version :)

Holly

This episode really hit hard for me.. As a deobi who’s been with tbz since before RTK, I could really feel all the pressure they put on themselves. Honestly for the first two competitions of Kingdom I was pretty disappointed about their performances. Not because they were bad, but because I felt they weren’t as cohesive as their RTK ones. Watching this episode kinda brought me back to reality- it’s the wrong mindset to continually expect them to top themselves. They already won RTK which is already incredible! They gained so many new fans and I’m so so proud of them and what they accomplished. I hope that they take the time to show off who they are and do what they truly love on the Kingdom stages! At the end of the day ranking doesn’t really matter, I just hope they know they’re doing AMAZING and they dont need to feel like they have to jump of buildings in order to satisfy their fans cuz that is NOT what we want! All we want is to see them do what they’re best at and show everyone who they are (while enjoying their performance too)! That’s why this performance is definitely my favorite from them from Kingdom so far. They showed off their creativity and synchronized dancing- what they’re best at! It didnt’t feel as stressful as their last one. I hope they feel less pressured and stay healthy :)

Holly

Yes! i have no idea why they cut it there’s literally a whole like 20 seconds of juyeon tango-ing but none of it showed :( I hope it wasn’t mnet evil editing but who knows :/

Holly

Hi Jeff! it seems the viki ep cut TBZ performance since u didnt see the tango part at the beginning, hope you can check out the full version!!

vannia

hi jeff! it seems viki (is that where you watched it) cut The Boyz performance :( in the beginning there should be a tango between juyeon and the female dancer... i hope you'd watch their full version video so you won't miss it, that part is incredible and really adds to the to performance.

Kirby

Kirby

i find it so entertaining when he covers the screen to avoid spoilers lmaoo (edit: the boyz actually did a dance in the beginning but it was cut off, i believe i was tango)

kpoppie

It’s because they used music from moulin rouge, I think? Basically they don’t have the copyright for that music, that’s why for international broadcast, they have to cut it.

Lynossa

Jeff, this week I’m with you. I agree with your view on these performances. Regarding SF9, I can see why they go with heavy acting as half of them are actors themselves; it’s part of their strength. I do enjoy the performance, their acting is great the fighting stunt is cool, vocal is great (Zuho rap is 🔥) but the song is lost on me. By the time TBZ performed, I’ve forgotten already. The Boyz! This is what I want from them, this is definitely my fav peformance from them in Kingdom; they utilized the space so well, the performance elevated the song and everything just clicked. And no, I don’t care about the fire, it’s gimmick and I really don’t care much about it. iKon understood the assignment and ran with it, leave all of us in dust. That is the best arrangement I’ve seen so far. They really made the song theirs and no one else could do the song this way, except them (quick info, Mino from Winner was involved in the song arrangement, those who listened to Mino would probably be familiar with the kind of drop they use in the song). The dance break is awesome and highlight the ‘in the dream’ feeling that reality is stretched and time is relative. Someone comment about Bobby’s rap; that is his style. He likes to drag his rap and go off beat, sometimes I feel he does that to remind the audience that this is live and not recording. Most of the time he’s just having fun. Lots of rappers also don’t like to sing with backtrack so they often go offbeat. Can he do more, yes but I feel like he also probably won’t go all out at this stage yet. At least I hope so. They are going to the right direction. Anyone wants to know Bobby latest album should check this (and he raps/sings live in here as well) https://youtu.be/Az_b63WthnA Also, iKon set is YG flexing since now budget is no longer issue. However, typical yg, they like clean set that enhances the performance, so I don’t think there will ever be busy set on iKon’s performance in the future.

Lynossa

The cultural appropriation controversy. I'm not hear to argue with anyone about it but the way Atiny's as fandom didn't look great when black Atiny's had issues with it.

Erley

I will have to respectfully disagree that the acting detracted from the performance. I think I'm definitely in the minority when I say I [LOVE] acting, and I love it whenever groups incorporate it into their performances. I know it's an idol competition show, but I think performances are not just song, dance, and rap. It's also concept, acting, and story. I've always loved end-of-year award shows because they've given me everything and MORE. Kingdom was the perfect way for me to see these groups do these kinds of things AND to go out of their comfort zone. That's why I loved Stray Kids, ATEEZ, and THE BOYZ last week. That's why I actually really liked SF9's performance this week. I can see how the acting might've been too much, but I honestly really liked that they had a better, more cohesive story this week. I loved how each member of SF9 was better-highlighted, and I loved that their use of the stage was more dynamic and theatrical. Obviously, it's all very subjective at the end of the day, but we can see how MNet and how the groups themselves interpret "performance;" it's an amalgamation of EVERY single aspect, not just the usual core of singing and dancing. That said, THE BOYZ and iKON both definitely delivered this week, but as of right now, I'd rank THE BOYZ at the top, with SF9 behind them, and iKON in 3rd. Like a fair amount of the comments section here, I agree that iKON's rearrangement wasn't doing it for me, but I definitely agree that it was a good, very original rendition that completely erased any trace of ATEEZ. I'm putting SF9 in 2nd because I'll have to disagree with so much of what you said; I think acting, especially fight sequences, can all contribute and count as choreography. I'm sure you're well aware of that fact, but I just don't think it was detrimental to the performance, and in fact added more highlights, which the expert critics said was a flaw of their "Jealous" rendition. TBZ are at the top because I think they struck the perfect balance between every aspect of performance: they had a clear storyline, executed it with great acting, had sharp choreography to compliment it, and overall just felt very clear in concept. I'll definitely be interested and excited to see ATZ, BtoB, and SKZ next week. ( Side-note: I know the cut-aways during the performances are weird and often frustrating, but as a Broadcast Media and Mass Communication student, I just have to point out that talent reality shows like these are always, ALWAYS edited with the reactions of contestants as priority. That's why MNet publishes the full versions on YouTube, anyway. Especially in Korean and Asian media in particular, this is just how editing works for these kinds of shows; they're not selling the performance, they're selling the face and the visual. And you just KNOW how much people love their visuals and funny reactions. )

Matt Vesliño

I dont like this criticism towards the Boyz like these men working hard asf on these performances just for the evaluations to call their performances underwhelming or just bad like I get yall want them to do more but I feel like they doing more here than RTK like what yall want them to do Jump Off A Roof to impress yall ??

kai

Why people are "traumatized" by THANXX era? Never heard of that

Nela00

i have been saying the same thing about ikon, and what june said about him being insecure about their dances let me know. i really think these men don't fully realize how they could take over if they just uses all the members to their advantages, like yall have fucking bobby on your team,...BOBBY his name alone don't need an explanation. yall have Ju-ne..one of my top voices in kpop ever, that man can sing his freaking ass off, yall have DK dance machine, yall have jay who I've always felt was one of their top dancers like ....I'm glad they starting to up their skill. but so far their performance is # 1 for me. ikon is legit one us right now underdogs i cant wait for them to climb up.

Sham Sham

i get what you saying bc i does feel like they’re focusing more on him than the rest

kai

I don't know why but the drama is just hilarious to me. If they did that in my country we'd have no TV hosts left...

Vera Conceição

uh! i'd cheer for that!

Vera Conceição

In regards to what you said about SF9 i completely understand where you're coming from. My guess is that for MNET (maybe FNC too?) each group has it's own identity and that's what they're focusing on, which is very limiting as (as you mentioned) they are very well rounded artists. I would love if their next performance would be vocal centric as they have fenomenal vocalists.

Vera Conceição

omg i thought i was going crazy, why would they do that??? :(((

Brooke Curren

SF9 my number one! Loved this performance!

Jenn BL

damn.... how majority of the fandoms are now just looking forward to the experts' evaluation than the peers' evaluation instead of the overall ranking with popularity vote. they really need to change the voting mechanics because the popular team would just keep winning and winning despite who actually did the best (unlike queendom where voting seems to be unpredictabe). TBZ just never disappoints me with their ideas. IKON is starting to get it, when it comes to making a song completely theirs, they're unmatchable. But they really need to make use of their advantages well. Like... they have Bobby, a beast of his own. his voice can fill out the whole stage and I am not seeing them use it to their advantage, he is a literal weapon for them and we have June's piercing voice, Donghyuk's dance skills?? SF9 is a complete surprise and although they were the only group I didnt know that much, I'm starting to notice them, and everytime they're on the screen I just can't help but to compliment their visuals. ++ can't wait for the other groups' performances!

emotionless bot

The second host - Yunho had a controversy regarding violating covid19 regulations - he stayed in a restaurant after the supposed working time - which is 10pm in Korea. So it was a scandal and they decided to pull him off the show, so now only Changmin is there. It happened before Kingdom started airing, but they already filmed first 3 episodes, so they couldn't edit him out completely - but even there you can notice that there is never a close-up of him.

RisingSunbebe

Thank you so much for saying this! I agree with you whole heartedly. I think the balance between acting, singing, and dancing was phenomenal. If they had not put that much into the acting then people would be saying they didn’t pull off the concept enough. SF9 are unique and different. I am happy they don’t go with what everyone else does. I don’t understand the whole “too much acting” They were performing. On stage performing is everything from dancing, acting, and singing and they gave all that and more to there performance. It was phenomenal to watch

Doyoungismyult

A bit unrelated, but Jeff you were taking about how you wished the performance was more zoomed out during the silhouette dance in TBZ’s performance, and I definitely agreed. But Felix brought up the fact that they were surrounded by mirrors on all sides, so their actually so only 3-4 members dancing. Idk if that made me like the performance anymore than I already did, but I thought it was nice that Felix pointed it out 😂

Mattie H.

I cant believe they cut out the beginning on viki? Like the partner dance had so much impact when I first saw it

Pedokan

agreed, the song was literally re-born. iKON understood the assignment and delivered

leen

the thing about the boyz thats kind of rubbing me wrong ever since rtk, is that it just kind of feels like juyeon ft. the boyz... ik he's the most popular member but i just kind of would like focus on other members of the group too because they're all so talented!

hannahkinskywalker

I am watching the reactions to TBZ rn and Viki cut out Juyeon‘s first solo in the beginning-

Emely

If The Boyz are committing themselves to a Game Of Throne theme, I hope to see a freaking dragon before the finale!

Daniel Secundino

For me IKON s performance wasn’t that exciting and arrangement wasn’t doing it for me. Dancing as well wasn’t that impressive. From them I liked THE BOYZ most . ( it’s just sad for me that ATEEZ can’t get enough views and votes because their fandom is not big but I hope they will gain more fans from this show , they definitely made friends 😊👌)

jinkichimchim

i'm becoming a fan of ikon from watching kingdom, i enjoy their performances the most because you can tell they're having a great time. i love bobby's energy especially! my ranking for this episode would be 1. The boyz 2. Ikon 3. Sf9

Victoria

My ranking for this performances is 1: SF9 2: The Boyz and 3: iKON but they are so SO close! I've had iKON last for all performances so far, and although they currently still is I just want to say that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED their arrangement of "Inception" 😍 It's just that I overal like the whole "package" of the others stages more, and iKON is the group I'm the least familiar with from before and haven't listened that much to them. I've already heard most of the other groups songs, except only the title tracks with ATEEZ, and I have to admit that it probably does color my spazzing and excitement a bit when I'm recognizing songs i already love. But I'm definitely getting more and more interested in iKON now, and that's exiting. Not just to enjoy the AWSOMENESS of groups whom I already like, but to discover new great ones. Lastly I just want to say that I disagree with your thoughts about the acting and fighting being too much focused in SF9's performance, I thought it was a great mix, but I understand and respect your views 😉

Camilla Helen Wickstrøm

I heard that someone commented like "BOBBY's rap is so good he should join Show Me the Money" 😂its funny and amusing at the same time because BOBBY literally joined and WON that show already. (In SMTM season 3) HAHA ❤ It's really nice seeing new fans coming because of this show too. I'm loving this re-born round so much because we're seeing lots of interactions from these groups and also between their respective fandoms which is so great! ❤

eve_ss

Ikon was my favourite bc they literally took inception and made it an Ikon song which is super difficult to do, SF9's was easily my favourite from them so far, and tbz did great but i just feel like there was something missing from the performance

Suwamagical

It was cut from the broadcast itself, we all know mnet editing. I was looking for it as well after watching the yt full version. It was actually a pity that they cut that off since it showed a great intro to their whole concept. If Jeff will watch the full version again after all performances next week, I hope he spots this as well because it was well executed by Juyeon and the dancer.

Danika Diane

Mnet also already released the official studio versions of these performances (SF9 and THE BOYZ) but except iKON unfortunately. I'm thinking maybe they would release it next week so it would be at the same time with ATEEZ or they wouldn't really released their version at all because I also heard that YG have their own music distributor and different from Mnet so there might be some conflicts on that? I'm not really sure about their reason tho but we'll see next week. ❤

eve_ss

After watching the subbed version I have to give it to iKON for this set. They rearranged the song and lyrics to fit their theme(Movies) and make it sound like them. Bobby looked like he was having a ball. I really liked what SF9 wanted to do with Stealer. They changed to concept of the song but the rearrangement wasn't that much different than the original. And The Boys were looking elegant and lush as always but that's what I always feel when I see them. Their Game of Thrones sets are gorgeous. I can't wait for BtoB they look and sound so good. If they are as good as I think they will be they are going to be my #1.

Erley

iKON's performance is my favorite as well so far! ❤ "INCEPTION" was really rebirthed! They understood their assignment so well! From the arrangement, the new chorus, the rap section, they really made it like an iKON song! I mean, this still makes me feel like how I feel with the original Inception ver but also different in a way? I don't know how to describe it better. HAHA but I enjoyed it so much! The thing I loved the most about this also is that I can really listen to this ( studio version) for so many times even without the performance itself because that's how good their arrangement is! Like if I didn't knew ATEEZ before, I would really thought that iKON's is the official version. Also, just want to add, I'm sure MINGI would be happy to see this because he always mentioned that he likes BOBBY and he is his role model. ❤ ATEEZ and iKON bestieees lezgooo 🥰

eve_ss

Interesting take because I absolutely felt the the opposite. Especially about Bobby's rapping. To me he was having fun and showing it. Just like Han and Changbin stated. The fact that it didn't seem traditional made it even more fun for me. And I disagree completely with them keeping the original chorus. The whole point of this category was for them to take a song and remix it. And for me they hit the mark. While I felt like the other groups looked great and but didn't actually do what was asked of them.

Erley

Thats what I call victim of their own success as expectations are set so high from the start that anything less can be seen as a dissapointment 😔. I just see it as at least they are not resorting in a subpar not trying hard performance they still keep on serving great performances. I think they just need to build a platform from this show to increase their followers as they dont have a big fanbase compared to other groups.

Ival Belarmino

Where was the tango dance in the beginning from the boyz stage is it cut in the viki ep because in yt its shown?

Nathalie

I don't know what happened to my previous comment, seems like it disappread so I'll try again. The problem I have with the "constructive critisism" for TBZ is that it wasn't really contructive at all. The comment said "The fans who have watched RTK would be disappointed in this stage". They did not state what part of the performance that was disappointing or what they could have done to improve for the next stage. That's not constructive critisism, that's just critisism. Also I feel like TBZ are being held at a higher standard than the other groups due to their win in RTK. Yes, I get that people want them to live up to their RTK stages, but don't forget that this is a whole new show. The judges task was to evaluate the performances in this round compared to each other, not compared to previous stages. I just feel bad for TBZ cause it seems like their win in RTK is becoming more of a burden than anything else in this show.

Here is my overall problem with Ikon's version of Inception... it was the arrangement. It reminds me of a story of a Vietnamese dish called Pho. Just like the first chorus, I felt that they should've respected the first chorus before changing it up in the second and ultimately the bridge. See, when you go to Vietnamese restaurants, the chef appreciates it when you taste their version of Pho first before you add other spices or mix-ins. I think that Ikon would've hit the mark much better if they were to do the first chorus as is, then the second chorus would be the same as Ikon arranged it to be, and then rise that tension with what they did in the final act. The other thing that took me away is Bobby's rapping, which is super disappointing when you hear how he won SMTM 3 and is known to be one of the best traditional rappers in K-pop. Hearing how he didn't rap throughout and the constant yelling/in-and-out within his rapping lines threw me out. That to me is the same as Jeff felt with the acting from SF9's performance.

i really have to disagree with you Jeff about SF9 having too much acting , i thought the acting scenes connected the song and choreo and allowed it to flow quite perfectly , i really enjoyed their performance , every aspect of it so much

Pertinent to the theme this round, I would agree that rearranging the other group’s song into their personal color should be a heavy emphasis in judgement followed by performance. I really like iKon’s remix/performance and you are right that it definitely helped ATEEZ gain a bit more publicity in Korea. I believe Answer trended and charted in Korea because of iKon’s performance (sadly the studio iKon Answer version is not available for download). I would have loved to see a bit more latin with The Boyz’s remix and performance and then for SF9 I agree. The performance itself was a great wow factor on the first watch, but I am not certain I would add that remix into my Spotify. I loved that first dance sequence SF9 did together though!

For me, The Boyz' performance this round was their best yet (and if I'm being honest, it's the closest I've come to immediately loving a performance of theirs since their Shangri-La cover in RTK). I agree that this is the most cohesive so far. The original O Sole Mio is one of my favourite SF9 songs and I really liked their interpretation of the song musically by emphasising the tango elements (though I kind of wish they'd referenced the iconic jacket choreography the song has). This was conceptual but also not too overwhelming for me, with the focus on the members' skills especially the vocals towards the end which I really liked. They could have done a little more, but I'm glad this performance went in this direction for the most part. SF9's performance of The Stealer was also very enjoyable and theatrical, though music-wise I wasn't as much a fan of the arrangement because it didn't feel like they either changed the song entirely to put their own stamp on it, nor was it a more straightforward interpretation. I wish the camera angles and editing had been slightly better to show off their stunts a little more. I really enjoyed their acting here - that made this theatrical, and made this performance even more memorable. Performance-wise they're consistently bringing the skill and sharpness and how I wish Mnet would highlight that in their behind-the-scenes prep segment - I'm getting so tired of Mnet just saying they're visuals/actors, which they absolutely are (and pretty good actors too) but damn. Give me focus on Taeyang's dance, Zuho/Hwiyoung's rap, Inseong/Rowoon vocals! Give me discussions of them preparing, their input on the songs (I don't know the extent to which they might or might not have input but Zuho produces sometimes and I'd like to see more of something like that). Show me more of the group's dynamics! iKON's arrangement of Inception was very unexpected and while it really isn't reminiscent of the original, I personally think they interpreted the 'Reborn' theme the best. That performance was all iKON's charm and energy and I really liked it. I wouldn't listen to this musical arrangement of Inception on my own, but in terms of interpreting this song in their own style I think they did a great job. I really appreciate their personality too, their prep segments are so much more... energetic? Don't-carish? An energy that I really like.

I think Sf9's performance this time is the first time I 100% disagree with you. I loved all their acting and especially appreciated that their action scenes where sprinkled through the whole stage. If they only did it in one part of the performance It would have felt disconnected in my opinion. Their fight scenes flowed perfectly like they were a part of the Choreo for me.

Do it just me or why dose the beginning part of the boyz stage was cut (first partner work part)

This show is a rollercoaster! Like I don’t even know how to rank the performances I love all for different reasons. For this episode it’s hard! Ikon had my favorite song, The boyz had my favorite choreo and Sf9 had the best concept and staging. But if i think about the challenge itself, which is about songs then Ikon takes it!

Hello Jeff, I am commenting as I am watching your reaction, so I apologize if you see me throughout the comment section. After watching SF9 performance, I disagree with the acting being too much. Since they were doing a Noir concept for this performance, I feel like acting needed to be displayed throughout. I really enjoyed seeing the chaos being ensued to take what is theirs, the crown to the whole kingdom. It's very poetic as well because their challenge is to 'team' up and switch the group's song to their own. If they only did the Noir concept, whether or not it was stunted and acted out only in the beginning or middle alone, the performance would miss that mark.

My ranking so far for re born 1. SF9 2. iKON . 3. TBZ

I hate to be bias but the boyz topped it for me this episode the song selection of O Sole Mio my favourite SF9 song and they did it justice. Although i did miss those spanish flamenco lines they still retained strong body lines in the choreo. This song as we forget has 5 languages in it Italian, Spanish, Latin, English and Korean. Jeff you might want to react on the original song on your youtube channel.

Ival Belarmino

The other MC Yunho left the show because of his scandal so changmin will be doing it by himself.

Ashley

My rank for now is TBZ, SF9, IKON

Summer

Ikon is amazing! SF9 shined and did their best too. TBZ performance is very classy. It's hard to pick right now when all of them did so well. For now, ikon is my #1. They really killed it!

Madie Lee

I will produce a variety show like that u mentioned Jeff. If I become a pd at Korean entertainment where ever the company is..

Hana W. Jl

iKON really killed it in this round. Their arrangement for Inception is the most iKON sounding song ever. They did their homework very well for this round. I hope they get at least top 3 from the judges evaluation.

Allison

iKON's performance was my favorite here. I need their ver of Inception to be released ASAP 'cause I would definitely listen to it. My ranking based on the overall theme of Re-Born is: 1. iKON 2. The Boyz 3. SF9

jasmine teume

My rank is TBZ SF9 IKN O sole Mio hit my soul 🫂 there's so many things that just.... got me.. The Stealer got me on my knees 👀👀👀 I can't with Bobby sjsbzjss

Omayma

My rank so far is The Boyz, SF9, and Ikon. The Boyz stage was really good, they can pull off any genre, the dance was so good, Juyeon doing the tango and then New with his high note it was so clear and not straining I loved it. Sf9's stage was really good I loved their version of the song. Sf9 also referenced TVXQ Yunho's mv thank you in the choreography that was so good. Ikon stage was good but their version of the song wasn't really selling it for me it felt like it was missing something but had the signature yg sound. Overall they all did good.

Ashley

best thing ever happened on this episode: ATEEZ and iKON bestieees!! 😂🥰❤

eve_ss
