Erkerut here.
So yeah! We have an update coming soon. Yaaaay!!
I've officially finished the first batch of images, which are the first three scenes of Chapter 3.
This past week has been the most stressful and disappointing week in the world for progress on the novel. Because, among other things, one of my biggest fears came true.
In the middle of the night, I was struck by a toothache that became so intense the next day that I couldn't sleep a wink, and by 8 a.m. I was at the dentist's door with an emergency.
So I had a series of appointments with the dentist right in the middle of finishing the first update. (My ordeal with the dentist isn't over yet.)
I've been trying to finish the last batch of images (the first sequence/scene of Chapter 3) since last Friday, but for one reason or another, I haven't been able to. This is because (among other things) I've basically never drawn, let alone the interior of a car. So it was a challenge that took up way too much time that I would have loved to use on something else, but oh well. On Friday, I started working at 11 a.m. and finished at 3 a.m. the next day, and I wasn't even halfway through. Saturday was more or less the same, except I only worked 12 hours instead of 16.
The problem with doing something you've never done before (like the interior of a car) is that it's really stressful and fills my head with self-flagellation every five seconds because I feel like an idiot who should have learned this kind of thing ten years ago. Not to mention, when you're doing something new, it has to be the same level of quality as your other work, so it doesn't look out of place with everything else I've drawn, plus you can't take too long, or you'll delay the whole process.
So, I've had a pretty rough time, but I think it was all worth it in the end because I think I got something worthy of the quality I've been aiming for with the new Samara images, even though my back and tailbone are paying the price.
For the car interiors, while they're not much to write home about, I wanted to be inspired by the props used in the 1995 Gundam Wing openings (and the new one), and even though they didn't turn out exactly as I envisioned, I think the result suits my style quite well. So maybe in the future I'll end up redoing the typewriter so I can have it as an illustration instead of a render.
Anyway. I've finally finished the first 3 scenes of chapter 3 (there will be 10 in total). The next update (which will consist of the next 2 scenes, which are quite long and have 39 images in total) will be easier to do, since it doesn't have as many elements that require learning new things.
So yeah. In a few days, we will have another update in the beta version of Chapter 3.
I'll take a few days of rest to start the next batch with all the energy that this deserves.
As always, thanks for reading me, guys.
See ya next week.
