Ok, if I have to be honest I don't really know where to start this update, so I think I'll start by letting you know what has happened since the last post published.
Ahem...
As few of you know (those of you on the Discord server) I basically had to redo ALL of the renders I already had ready for the novel again, since Steam told us there could be problems with a possible lawsuit over the paintings on the wall inside the cabin, cause I didn't paint them. The renders with frames on the wall covered more than half of the renders I already had done, so I had to render all of them again. More than 60 renders, at first...
Each of these renders contains approximately 500 textures, some of them with more than 2k resolution each to cover all possible angles and close-ups very well.
Here you can see how many textures just the cabin has.
As a result of this, renders take between 16 and 22 hours, and some of them even take more than a day. Unfortunately, even though my computer is a good contender to work with big 3D projects, it needs almost all of its power to render them, so drawing was almost impossible for me while I was rendering.
So I had to stop all my artwork while the renders were ready again...
And when I had more or less 50% of the renders done, I realized that the file where I had the old renders had been corrupted, so, guess what?
Yes... you guessed it. I had to do all the renders from scratch. ALL OF THEM...
Basically, because there were already changes in the main scene, and, if I needed to make any image from another angle, it would look different and ruin the whole immersion, so I had to redo ALL the renders and edit them from scratch, even the ones that were already in the illustrations.
So, at least I had the opportunity to fix the inconsistency errors that the current images had with the story, like the missing stockings in the image above and better pubes.
While the renders took up all the power of my computer I couldn't do anything with it while rendering the more than 130 images that we have for chapters 1 & 2 (many of these images are backgrounds that will be used for the remaining chapters)
This whole rerendering problem started before I published my last post about Wet Nightmares here.
After 2 weeks of not being able to do anything on my computer because I was rendering 24/7 (also on Christmas and new year eve), stress began to creep up my spine and attacked me to such a point that I began to have serious skin problems on my face due to stress, so I started working on the document that the programmer needed from my cell phone. For more than 4 months I was working only on my cell phone or on my Tablet when my cell phone ran out of battery. And I must say that my wireless keyboard made the whole process a lot easier.
So I ended up with 2 documents of 143 pages each for the programmer with minute details about what should go where with exact timings etc. (Yes, curiously both documents ended up being 143 pages each, and yes... a boring process as hell)
And the moment my PC finally stopped rendering I started drawing with my full power. And finally, cool things like this one below started to come out:
Now, we are finally close to finishing both chapters and putting them up on Steam as God intended. And if I have to be honest with you, I started to have a lot of panic and frustration thinking: "Well, if all these problems occurred in just the first 2 chapters, what awaits me for the other 4?"
I've been working on this game for 6 years. 6 fucking years.
And that thought naturally grew like shit inside my mind, and until one night, that same anguish kept me awake all night and I went for a walk at 3 in the morning. (It should be noted that walking in some parts of Mexico at 3 in the morning is a good idea only if you want to die, but thank God my neighborhood is very quiet and safe.) and during that whole walk that lasted until the sun began to rise, it was when I realized that all the delay problems with my Visual Novel had been because of money.
I have to work extra hours out of the extra hours I already work on the novel to be able to make commissions or architectural 3D comissions or even martial arts lessons to make another shit that can give me the money I need each month to be able to pay my rent and things like that.
I know it's something that's going out of style, but I take being the man of the house too seriously, and failing to bring the money is not on my schedule and never will be. So, the topic of money has been a really difficult thing for me all these years, and that end up slowing the process terribly, cause I had to stop all the shit to find a new temporary job to complete my monthly income, but I'm not the guy who wants to manipulate my fans and ask for "emergency commissions." like some artists that are not into an emergency, just want a new phone or something like that.
I understand that some people really go through an emergency like a family member who went to the hospital or a vet bill for a pet that got sick, and those really are emergency commissions, but that thing is something that I will never do, cause not having enough money for me is not an emergency.
Also, I couldn't ask for more than what you are already doing for me guys, supporting me month after month after month and on top of everything paying your subscription on this page without asking for anything else or asking for more.
And I ended up realizing that even if the game does terribly bad in the early access stage, it will give me enough money to not have to worry about money again.
And now, I already have the workflow that I needed with the programmer and the ENTIRE story, and I mean ENTIRE story, is finally ready and well translated. Yes, the whole 6 chapters.
So, for the last 4 chapters all that remains is to draw pictures like a damn sick person (that I already am), and that is my specialty. I've been training for that all my entire life.
So, basically, this post is to let you know that Chapters 1 & 2 are finally almost ready and will be on Steam, GOG & Itch.io in maybe 2 months, cause, even though I almost finished, we need to make a huge debugging process, and to check the cohesion of the project so far.
For my part I just need to finish 4 more NSFW images, and another 2 small docs for the programer for a new section where the protagonist has weird dreams.
And believe me, time has seemed eternal while I work in this project and at the same time it has flown by as the delivery dates that I impose on myself begin to approach mercilessly.
What's ready and you will be able to play on the release of the early access:
-Chapter 01 story.
-Chapter 01 illustrations.
-Chapter 01 dialogues with expressions.
-Chapter 01 English & Spanish translations.
-Chapter 02 story.
-Chapter 02 illustrations.
-Chapter 01 dialogues with expressions.
-Chapter 02 English & Spanish translations.
What's ready but still not implemented:
-Chapter 02 branch 01.
-Chapter 03 story.
-Chapter 03 branch 01.
-Chapter 03 branch 02.
-Chapter 04 story.
-Chapter 05 story.
-Chapter 06 story.
What's letf:
-To finish a small investigation branch.
-To finish a dream. (I put it that way to not to spoil anything)
-To check the programmer version.
-To implement the new dream in Chapter 01.
-To implement the new dream in Chapter 02.
-To finish NSFW illustration #14 in Chapter 02.
-To finish NSFW illustration #15 in Chapter 02.
-To finish NSFW illustration #16 in Chapter 02.
-To finish NSFW illustration #17 in Chapter 02.
This visual novel had given me literally nightmares, no joking and I swear that I've dreamed with Samara 4 times this tells me in a certain way that I'm obsessed with this project and I think that's good.
I've been watching documentaries about famous games like "super meat boy" and how they were conceived and everyone was incredibly poor or had huge money problems like me at the time. The creator of "Cuphead" ended up mortgaging his house. In my case owe to the Mexican IRS half a million Mexican pesos (like 25k USD) and I still have to pay 2 loans from the bank (like 4,500 USD), so, as contradictory as it may seem, I think I am on the right track cause is the same track they had to walk.
This post is not to make you think that I am unhappy nor to put me on my knees begging for more money because you have already done too much for me and I am very grateful to you. This post is to give you an update on the state of the game as you had requested in the previous post, but more than anything to show you what the path of making a video game or in my case, a visual novel is like. And despite all of that, I've fucking enjoyed tons.
Although I have suffered a lot due to the issue of money, let there be no doubt that I am following my biggest childhood dream and that I would and will never see myself working in a damn office cause that's not me. Even though I am suffering, I'm also having fun seeing my girl growing up as a character and seeing how my universe is growing. And have no doubt that I am doing my best, so I am sure that you will enjoy my visual novel 100% or I guarantee your money back.
And someday... after this game is 100% released in a World premiere, if I get to see an official Nendoroid of Samara, I'll know I did it so fucking well.
