Commodore Belmond was once a feared pirate hunter on Ixalan, known to fully destroy any and all piates that crossed her path.
Many many years prior to that however, Kara Belmond was a lithomancer of Zendikar. She had no real skill at early age, but as her spark ignited, she found herself capable of controlling and shaping one type of rock in particular with extra affinity: Diamonds.
She was fully able to manipulate any and all carbon within stone to create and shape it as she pleased into pure diamonds, in which she created marvellous weaponry for the other Kor in her clan.
One day however, she found herself on another plane, doing the same crafting for that planes inhabitants. Problem with that however, is that diamonds could be used to create a financial imbalance on the plane, which got to such extent that Ferra Visa of Felldawn arrested Kara on the charges of .
Belmond spent over 10 years on the prison plane known as Felldawn, until she was pardoned on a condition: that she would never planeswalk more than 10 times ever again.
The reason behind this pardon was because information had arisen that Belmond was making these diamonds as part of paying off a debt to the lord of the newly established plane of New Aloyan.
The commanders of Felldawn wanted to know the nature of their relationship, and thus they had hoped to spy on her.
Kara Belmond never went to New Aloyan, but rather went straight for the plane known as Ixalan.
She had exchanged one prison for another, which confused the Commanders of Felldawn.
She spent years on that plane, making a name for herself.
Her hatred for the one that had captured her grew to a point where she hated all pirates with a burning passion. Her cold exterior never showing any of her true emotions as she walked the deck on her ship. It's even said she allowed herself to convert into vampirism in order to prolong her life.
She was waiting for Ferra to show herself, hoping to trap her inside the plane along with her and then hunt her down with the armada she commanded.
However, the seal that had kept planeswalkers from escaping the plane was suddenly lifted, and she for the first time in over 30 years felt as she was actually free.
Her trap and years of planning however had been ruined, and she felt she had nothing left on Ixalan.
So she left, leaving behind four sons and an entire fleet without its commodore, and she headed straight for New Aloyan.
There, she became part of the Hataya family, the group that governs New Aloyan. She rose as the shining star with the voice of a goddess, earning love and affection as she sang every week at the Grand Capital.
She had finally the freedom she wanted and the praise she desired. Yet some days, she look out over the sea and think back to the life she left behind on Ixalan.
