Notice the framing boxes around people when the POV shifts to surveillance mode. White means no knowledge of the machine. Yellow means awareness of the Machine's existence. When John and Turing/Root enter the hotel lobby they were both framed in yellow. There are many little things in this show that will blow your mind when you realize later.
