Personally, I wouldn't say ZFT & The Pattern are dropped or malarkey. They are always part of the whole. They are a path to follow... in which to discover the real crux, the other side, etc... I hope Neil has already watched 2x01... because he really doesn't want to know *anything* in advance, even vaguely. My rule of thumb is... if we couldn't possibly know it at this point (1x20), then Neil shouldn't either.

Been waiting on this episode for a while now. Completely forgot that they spoiled the big reveal in the opening credits. Sucks. Season 1 of Fringe is the writers just throwing all kinds of stuff at the wall to see what will stick. Most of it doesn't. Wisely, they choose to focus on the alternate world stuff and develop that further. A lot of the whole "ZFT", "The Pattern" malarkey isn't further developed. Each season of this show refines and draws down on what works, to its betterment. Next season is where things really start to take off, in a more cohesive fashion. This includes the development of Olivia's character. Anna Torv is awesome but Olivia is kind of a cold fish (hence the niece angle this season). That being said, watch for a new character (whose actor is very much in the modern discourse today), who is introduced in the first episode of Season 2 (potentially as a replacement for Olivia?) but who is then completely forgotten about, minus a very brief on screen appearance in episode 2 (with no dialogue) and then is never seen or referred to again. Like I said, the show learns from its mistakes.

I hate when TV shows spoil the surprise like that. Now for some real Fringe :)
