Good news and bad news (no preview builds yet)
Added 2020-10-20 18:21:21 +0000 UTCI’ve god some good news and some bad news. First of all, unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances rain physics needs some more time, very sorry about it. With that, I decided to take a little break from working on it and instead work on another project. I think it might be even more important, and I should have done it a long time ago, but it’s quite more complicated than anything else I’ve done so far, and it didn’t feel like I was ready for it before. So, announcing
The CM Workshop! 🎉
It’s like the Steam Workshop, but for Assetto Corsa!
(Sorry for trying to hype it up, but I really hope people would consider joining, so I’m trying to make it sound a bit more interesting.)
Key features for users:
- Browse and install mods seamlessly (without any confirmation);
- Get latest versions fully automatically;
- Rate and review mods;
- Follow curators you like to get notifications about new recommended content;
- Don’t like content converted from other games? Click a checkbox and you will never see it;
- Missing some content for an online server? Get it automatically when trying to connect (assuming content creator shared it on CM Workshop);
- View cars in CM Showroom without installation (requires to load some data, but less of it than the whole car);
- Filter content by various factors to find what you’re looking for;
- Keep things orderly: everything uploaded to CM Workshop would follow Kunos guidelines, including style of previews, tags, brands and so on;
- No need to register to start downloading things.
Key features for content creators:
- Share content via Content Manager, no need to worry anymore about where to upload large files;
- See how many people have downloaded or are using your mods currently;
- Feel free to push as many quick fixes as you feel are necessary — with automated updates, new versions will get distributed fast;
- Worry less about people copying your work without permission: CM Workshop would do its best to try and detect such cases automatically;
- Write detailed posts about your work on your feed, combine several mods into collections.
Some of these features are already ready, and I’m fairly confident I’ll be able to implement the rest, although it would take some more time. But, sadly, apart from that video with UI, I don’t have much else to show at the moment. I spent most time in the last few weeks designing server-side (usually a big problem for me, already had to rewrite everything three times), but now I believe the core concepts are working and are extendable enough to handle all the necessary features.
File storage, I believe, is figured out as well (thanks to Backblaze B2 and Cloudflare collaboration), although I might have to switch to a dedicated server later on if there would be any issues.
Again, very sorry for the delay with the rain, and for other bugs with CSP. Hopefully I’ll be able to release a rainless build of it with more fixes soon. And, as always, thank you so much for all the support! I definitely wouldn’t be able to create something like that without it.

New CSP crash. It looks like it can't decript models. Anyone?

2023-05-10 15:19:11 +0000 UTCThat's amazing. I think it's a tall order but I think you will have a lot of buy in from content creators especially if there's a marketplace built in.

2020-11-08 21:33:16 +0000 UTCI got that problem too. Happens to more than one car though so I'm guessing its a CSP issue. Might have to wait for a newer version of CSP or downgrade.

2020-10-24 20:25:17 +0000 UTCWow, this feature would be amazing. Kind of reminds me of Assettoland, but much more immersed and more interaction involved. Would really make things a lot quicker/easier for AC enthusiasts.
2020-10-24 16:00:21 +0000 UTChelp, how to turn off the rain?
2020-10-23 22:03:15 +0000 UTCCould you make a more realistic backfire? The original one just doesn't feel right imo.
2020-10-23 14:44:15 +0000 UTC"...but it’s quite more complicated than anything else I’ve done so far..." I had to smile reading this line. The job you've done so far is already way beyond rocket sience for me, personally. :)

2020-10-22 23:12:08 +0000 UTCI do my reflection with this new function in CM, if it works properly it could be the only way to find quality mods and easy updates but it could also be a double-edged sword. I'll explain. It will be possible to give all good and bad modders, honest modders or modders who steal from other games the opportunity to enter jobs and maybe put all these jobs for a fee. here there is the risk of creating an "iracing" Assetto Corsa with all the cars and in the future paid tracks. I'm sorry but this is not good for me also because they would all be illegal payments. I just hope that you can install mods and that CM doesn't block them from running. Good work Ilja
2020-10-22 06:49:17 +0000 UTCPermission to share the to a few mod groups I know to encourage them to sign on?
2020-10-22 03:36:14 +0000 UTCGood job !!

2020-10-21 20:30:03 +0000 UTCit would really be great all this in the corsa assetto!
Daniel Oliveira
2020-10-21 18:03:33 +0000 UTCLooks amazing bro!
2020-10-21 10:35:58 +0000 UTCGreat stuff Ilja. I do however hope that this doesn't lead to too many modders locking up their mods up with encryption, which really just means users can longer "get under the hood" and fix or adjust things that aren't quite right with mods. There's already a fair bit of that going on... and all too often it means throwing out potentially great mods that just need a little tweak here and there to work with various wheelbases/systems and equipment setups, or just adjust things to you own liking (which to me is the major benefits of of a sim that is designed to allow modding). Look forward to the non-rain build with bug fixes too.
xez
2020-10-21 07:44:41 +0000 UTCMods that automatically update? Loving it!
2020-10-21 06:01:07 +0000 UTCHow does it handle paid mods?
Morten Eriksen
2020-10-21 05:04:07 +0000 UTCNot bad idea at all mate. Obviously I wonder how it will work from modder's perspective. Will there be some quality checking before uploading or anybody will be allowed to post their mods? I will definitely use it and you can count with me with some testing if needed. One question though, what about the CUP system? will it be merged into the workshop?
Roman Fusaty
2020-10-21 04:46:05 +0000 UTCHi! Ilja! Are you planning to mess around with AI and race rules? Do you think is it possible to implement a "savestate" feature? Sometimes the player don't have enough time to finish practice, qualy and race in the same day or gameplay session. The ability to resume a weekend another day it would be very welcome. I think this latest console generation is trying to do that. Also, do you think is it possible to implement DRS race rules in single player? (enabling DRS only with less than a second of gap and after 1 or 3 laps), and virtual safety car? (whenever a car is retired from the race, the pit speed limit would be activated to everyone in the race for 1 or 2 laps). And rolling start? The grid could start from hotlap starting point, move in virtual safetycar for a "x" amount of time and then green flag. And black flag rules like in assetto corsa competizione? Just some questions, sorry if I am talking nonsense. As always, thank you for what you are doing, you are an artist!
2020-10-21 03:31:21 +0000 UTCyou're a miracle!
2020-10-21 01:14:18 +0000 UTCFinally, a unified modding community. Can't wait!
Zip Zap
2020-10-21 00:41:48 +0000 UTCAlso ik that rain and weather fx has been delayed to make space in development time for this, but in future can we create dynamic weather plans in content manager? The system used in PC2 and AMS2 makes creating a dynamic weather plan for various sessions very straight forward, and this is not simple with SOL mod alone. Just a thought for down the line...
2020-10-20 23:40:44 +0000 UTCExcellent idea, I like the idea of the highest quality mods surfacing to the top, as opposed to mass sprawls that racedepartment and assettoland. I will ask if one can filter tracks within CM Workshop by whether they are laser-scanned versions of the real circuit or not?
2020-10-20 23:38:01 +0000 UTCOrganized mods? Its a dream come true. Great work Ilja!

2020-10-20 22:00:41 +0000 UTCHere's my prediction: Ilja will not finish rain and physics but instead release a whole new open world driving simulator.

2020-10-20 21:46:23 +0000 UTCThank you! Great idea, I’ll prepare a build for it soon
Ilja Jusupov aka x4fab
2020-10-20 20:56:08 +0000 UTCThanks, that sounds awesome and will definitely be a major upgrade to AC. Still since you teased us with awesome rain (which has upgraded immersion to insane level) and now its probably delayed a bit more - is there any quick and dirty way we could tinker with latest preview and unlock rain for online races even if its really buggy?
Valters Boze
2020-10-20 20:40:26 +0000 UTCThis is absolutely brilliant. You are CHANGING Assetto Corsa for the better. You're turning it into THE simulator for us. I am always amazed by you...you're incredibly talented and it's why I support you. This will change the way we use mods and make it so much easier and accessible for general users. I can't explain how many times I've had to help my less technically proficient friends who are incredible drivers but barely know how to turn on their computer. This will be a game changer. Absolutely Kudos, Ilja. Well done.
2020-10-20 20:39:01 +0000 UTCThank you! The way it works, creator decides if they want to include support for their encryption in CM or not, after all, it makes it a bit more vulnerable. But, actually, I have a feeling CM Workshop might help with that too. It’s a bit of a distant plan, but I’m hoping to do something where I would generate previews for all the content on CM Workshop, as well as Kunos content, locally and then publish it to CM Workshop as an alternative preview style, so people could switch styles semi-instantly (apart from time spent downloading new previews pack). Also, maybe a bit later, if encryption would be proven to be stable, more people would consider agreeing on adding CM support
Ilja Jusupov aka x4fab
2020-10-20 20:34:27 +0000 UTCYou don't need to apologize to anyone here, Ilya! You are a miracle. You've been doing things for years that Kunos didn't dare to do. Without any source code ... a miracle! It is an honor to be able to support you. 😉 AC workshop? Hehe ... I need a week to put my enthusiasm into words. Stay tuned. 🖖
G. Yam
2020-10-20 20:30:21 +0000 UTCNice work, can't wait to see how it'll be used! Quick unrelated question tho, are there any plans to make it possible for us to make new previews for encrypted car models? Or was that blocked for a reason?
Jan-Sander Huiting
2020-10-20 20:23:38 +0000 UTCThat's exactly what I dreamed about since I started to dive into AC mods universe. That's super logical continuation of what is already available in CM.
2020-10-20 19:56:55 +0000 UTCGreat idea man, hope it pans out. Keep up the good work!
2020-10-20 19:51:16 +0000 UTCWow, that's an amazing project! Sounds like a perfect natural step for CM and AC, looking forward to it.

2020-10-20 19:32:21 +0000 UTCOh my. Gotta say the core idea left me speechless for a moment with it's sheer brilliance. If content makers jump aboard (which I imagine they might want to), this might just be the biggest game changer for finding and sorting content of anything ever. Finding interesting and quality mods is such a time intensive undertaking that I don't even mind if you take a full break from CSP while working on this. This kind of horizon expanding trailblazing is why i'm a patron. Keep up the amazing work :)

2020-10-20 19:07:25 +0000 UTCWow! Amazing!
2020-10-20 18:58:46 +0000 UTCAs someone a little newer to AC mods, it’s IS a bit overwhelming to track down all mods scattered around the web/FB/discord etc. it would be great to have one place to reliably get updates and install new ones. Hopefully it will catch on.

2020-10-20 18:46:23 +0000 UTCTake your time, i'm looking forward
2020-10-20 18:42:49 +0000 UTCDon't worry, I just have a lot of apprehension every time you post something, you are a genius and unfortunately one always expects something new to try on the track. I understand, however, that the update is not the easiest but my esteem and admiration towards you have not changed, I will look forward to the update that the magio Ilja will pull out.
