Mickey + Jessica: Concept Art and Style Frames

I've been making some example panels with a limited palette this week! โจโจ
As you all know, I love a simple palette๐ and this story is a bit dark, so I think it will lend itself to the material and tone of the story.. but I don't want it to get too murky!๐ค๐ฆ
I've also been trying my hand at this program called SketchUp, which will hopefully make backgrounds easier, although I think it would be more economical, time-wise, to hire some assistance there! (If you know anyone who is familiar with the program and looking for some freelance to help create a few key environments, please feel free to pass along this info!๐๐)
I also think I'm going to use a 3D model for Mickey's motorcycles and texture them to look like my style!๐โโ๏ธ๐๐

Whoa, I had no idea you've been using SketchUp for so long- that's so cool! ๐ณ And you use it for irl furniture arrangements, that's amazing! I am looking forward to these time-saving advancements.. it was a bit harder to think of using this kind of tool for Starfighter because so many of the environments were fantastical and it would have been a bit more time-consuming to make totally bespoke interiors, perhaps? ๐ญ๐ But now that we're a bit more in the real world, I look forward to having access to everyday models, haha! 2020-03-07 13:30:26 +0000 UTCi think the colour palette works really well. you're already working a lot with highlight and backlit lighting situations which helps a lot to keep it from getting too dark or difficult to recognize. and as long as you stay in urban areas, a city lights up the sky so much during the night, you can keep it still dark in the foreground and create contrast like that. i love the last panel with the new background and the car. i've been working with sketchup for about 10 years now and I like it a lot. I use it both for figuring out tradefair/con booth designs and illustration/animation backgrounds. I've even built my office/studio in sketchup to find out if I can rearrange the furniture the way I want to (works!). I keep seeing mangaka use it more and more for their backgrounds. it's such a smart idea because it saves so much time, and perspective is spot on. can't wait to see where you'll take this story ๐
