One of the best AHS episodes in my opinion! This is also my fave Kathy Bates performance in this entire show. Sheβs so damn good. And I disagree with people saying to stop after season 9. At least stop after 10 since the first half/βstoryβ of season 10 has some of the best AHS performances. Seasons 11 and 12 are total skips tho for sure. Hopefully 13 is better! Nothing will ever top Roanoke tho for me. Itβs so fucking good and crazy and actually scary and has some of the best gore in the show as a whole.

2024-07-29 04:00:50 +0000 UTCThis season is so well structured in that it basically uses the typical AHS formula against us (the audience). The first 5 episodes are your typical AHS: campier, more over-the-top, entertaining but not super scary horror. And then the back half comes along and turns everything on its head in the best way. It's so smart to have all the real versions of the ghosts, the witch and Polks be WAY scarier than the reenactment counterparts and also: casting non-AHS mainstays as them (for the most part). It really drives home the horror because we aren't like "Oh that's Evan Peters playing this guy, that's Sarah Paulson," we're just fully sucked into them being these scary, threatening figures. And, maybe my favorite aspect of this season: death has actual stakes. After Murder House and Hotel we're used to AHS ghosts just acting the same as they did when they're alive but stuck in one location (and a bit more murdery). Here, the evil ghosts actually LOOK different than they did when they were alive and our heroes, once they die, aren't immediately walking around as spirits afterwards, it's so refreshing.
