Because I'm a crazy person, I spent several days modeling this intricately detailed frat house set piece in Blender, even though this is the only panel in which it appears. (I might end up having a couple of panels outside the house later where I can reuse it. But with what I have written so far, the exterior doesn't show up again.)
But there's just something about this shift in Quentin's attitude, and (hopefully) the shift in the reader's excitement that seemed to justify spending the time on such a detailed establishing shot. I wanted the reader to feel similarly to Quentin on this page, where the frat house appears large and imposing but armed with his new knowledge now he's ready to tackle the party. It's a transitional scene, so putting detail in the house made sense.
After a lot of consideration, I decided not to name the fraternity something pun-sexual. It seems like too obvious of a gag, and it's also been done a lot (most notably, FAPP did a college themed expansion with frats with names like KΩK.) I originally called this the Robie House as a nod to Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House. But also, in the context of the story, I decided it would be the house for Rho Beta, or 'Robie' for short. As far as I'm aware there isn't a real fraternity named PB, but there are so many, it's always possible.
The house's architecture doesn't take any cues from the real Robie House, which is a Prairie style house. (Although one of my factories in Satisfactory does, haha. I need to do a video about that one soon.) I took design inspiration originally from Queen Anne and other Victorian style homes. But I didn't have the time (or frankly, the patience) to do all the detailed ornamentation that's a hallmark of the Queen Anne style. Also Queen Anne architecture is almost entirely asymmetrical, whereas I decided pretty early on this was going to be a symmetrical house, not only for compositional purposes, but because it also meant I only needed to model half a house. So it's kind of a mashup of styles borrowing elements from Victorian, Colonial Revival, Cape Cod and East Lake styles. Anyway, the point is, I spent a lot of time on it and I'm pretty proud of how it turned out.
