The ending was Darabont's idea not King's. In the book, they just drive off into the unknown. I was waiting for you to get to this movie. It's one of my favorites from King's adaptations.

Watched this movie in the cinema, during the scene where Ollie shot the religious woman, there was a huge cheer from the audience, most people started clapping, some stood up and clapped and there were other groups of people high fiving,it was just pure celebrations, never seen anything like it at the cinema before
Credit to Stephen Kings writing and Franks directing that they can create characters like her and Percy from The Green Mile that just get people emotionally invested

I've seen this movie several times, and that ending is still a killer gut-punch. But it is about the price you pay for losing hope and giving up.

Great reaction. Glad you enjoyed it. I think David's reaction to his wife was muted because he didn't want to wake up his son and have him see her.
