Elephants and Serval

After trying a few different things, I thought it'd be interesting to try making the pic feel more crowded by only showing parts of the elephants, having them pressing in from all sides. So you get more of an impression of them rather than seeing all of them. I don't push my images this way so it was fun to try.
It also occurred to me that it's rather similar to the original one with the zebras and lion. I realized I probably could've made the entire series about big cat preds being overwhelmed by larger herbivore prey and that would've been a little more thematically coherent. x) (And also hot) But that's okay I like what I've done so far too.

2024-04-12 21:53:30 +0000 UTCThis is amazing, Pulsar. Setting aside the horny subject matter, which I do love, the way you handled shading and light in this piece is really striking. All that elephant could have blended into a wash of gray, but you didn't let that happen, and having the light source come in at an angle really gives a sense of depth and of how the elephants LOOM over their guest. At first glance it's like a cave of flesh. This being a smaller cat only accentuates the size difference. I do hope there's some extra capacity for squash and stretch on that serval's side. Cats are non-Newtonian, right?

2024-04-12 20:35:00 +0000 UTCi think the choice to tighten up the frame definitely enhances the sense of being completely surrounded by and subsumed into elephant bodies... easily one of my megafauna favorites (and the series is so good -- that's a hard list to get onto!)
