don't mind me, I went on a download spree at Blambot to get a good 'voice over the phone' font. (Speaking of fonts, Comicraft's annual font sale is in TWO DAYS....)
And I looked it up and I don't think Chicago/Illinois doesn't do WIC cards (for the non-U.S.ians in the chat, that's the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program -- basically an allowance for certain eligible food and products for low income families/pregnant persons with young children!) but sometimes you gotta take ~Creative Liberties~ for impactful storytelling (especially when you gotta fit all your words in comic dialogue balloons).
FINALLY, if this grocery clerk looks familiar to anyone, that's probably because it's Frankee White! Frankee's a comic writer and editor, who helped do some edits on Keeping Time's original story outline, and is my Chicago liaison.

LMAOOO ok but I also had that thought while drawing him in that panel. I sort of feel that it's a bit off-model (not quite Denver-enough looking) but he came out so cute I refused to redraw it 🤣
