KEEPING TIME Logo

Sorry things have been a little quiet (especially at the Espresso tier) -- I think I'm still recovering from the marathon of making comic pages and then getting a covid booster! 😅

One of the things I have been working on is making a logo for the Denver and Daniel comic, which, in case you missed it, has officially been renamed Keeping Time!!

I'm not a graphic designer by any means, so I originally reached out to my bud, J.J. López, who is a graphic designer (and also phenomenal comic artist). I wanted his input and advice, but ultimately he said my idea was solid and he didn't have much feedback to give me, so I was brave and.. did it myself!!

(It does not please me to inform you that every single logo you see here is unique and different from the others, graphic design is THE DEVIL)

EFFORTS WERE MADE. A lot of trial and error, with a bit of me ultimately drawing the "font" for the word "Keeping" myself with a True Grit Texture brush, and then me agonizing over individual vector points in the word "Time" for like, ten hours. But we got there! I've slapped the finished logo over some existing art and it all feels very real now.

Two of the slides in here are part of the brief I sent J.J. Ancients like myself might recognize PostSecret, but the thing I want to touch on is the book I included. I recently found my copy of Midnight Miles while on my trip back home, which I got on clearance at my hometown's Borders when they were closing. ($3.99!! What a steal.) It's a photography book following Maroon 5 on tour, and although I do not care about Maroon 5 the band WHATsoever*, those photos and the photographer, Christopher Wray-McCann, were so incredibly formative for me as a visual artist and photographer back in the late '10s.

All of that has definitely informed my approach to Keeping Time, whether I was cognizant of it or not, and yet, I had completely forgot Midnight Miles existed until just now!! I'm real excited to be reunited with it and to have it to reference whenever I need vibe inspiration for Keeping Time.

*ok I have to come clean, my favorite song in the final month of my 8th grade summer, just before I started 9th grade and high school, was "This Love" because it was right in my vocal range and I would sing along with it very loudly in the car whenever it was on the radio

Oooh I love the logo, it’s really beautiful and bold! I like the mix of typo and the handwritten feel. Great job 👏🏻✨
