Keeping Time Cast

OH BOY, for my very first Kintsugi post, I thought I'd share... drum roll, please... the character bios I wrote up for my quick and dirty pitch packet I shared with the friends who helped provide feedback for the script outline!

Denver Leary - b. 1985/Irish American/Pansexual. He/him. Skater punk. Gifted lead guitarist of the indie rock band, Tennyson. Youngest and only son in a family of four (two older sisters and his mother). Although he’s a punk who gets into fist fights and bar brawls, he is selfless and constantly puts everyone else’s needs ahead of his own. He had to grow up quickly to try to be the man of the house after losing his father.  His day job is working in a food truck.

• Plays: Gibson Les Paul Custom (Tobacco Burst), Vigier GV Rock (matte red)
• Favorite music: Dead Kennedys, Led Zeppelin (inherited taste from his father), Bad Brains, Johnny Cash
• Motifs: dogs and loyalty

Denver’s vibes as a song: “Hope” - The Descendents

Daniel Akutagawa - b. 1986/Japanese American/Gay. He/him. Indie kid. Rhythm guitarist and vocals. A latchkey kid who has grown up in his sister’s shadow. He is competent in all things - academics, extracurriculars, music - but does not feel like he excels in anything. Spirals out after his sister goes missing in high school. After her loss, he begins to view his own self-worth only in how much other people desire him, and throws himself from one terrible lover to another. As an adult, he works nights at a downtown piano bar.

• Favorite music: Interpol, Elliott Smith, The Tallest Man on Earth, This Will Destroy You
• Motifs: moonlight and nocturnes

Daniel’s vibes as a song: “Speaking Off the Record” - Hotel Mira

Alexandra “Alex” Akutagawa - b. 1986/Japanese American/Straight. She/her. Hollister and American Eagle girl. Daniel’s twin sister who has been missing since their senior year of high school. She also suffered the same impossible expectations placed on her by her parents, but never appeared to struggle with them (at least, from Daniel’s perspective). She was an extroverted, charismatic, piano prodigy who  smiled through everything.

• Favorite music: Le Tigre, Broken Social Scene, Garbage, Mirah, múm
• Motifs: sunshine, études

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS

Tomás Shipman - b. 1985/White-Mexican/Straight. He/him. Drummer of Tennyson. Denver’s childhood friend and lifelong partner in (sometimes literal) crime. A self-absorbed former scene kid with no real ambitions or dreams. He does zero long-term planning, but this doesn’t cause him that much distress.

• Favorite bands: Coheed & Cambria, Circa Survive, Thursday, The Dear Hunter

Stefon “Stef” Martin - b. 1984/Black/Ace. Metalhead. He/him. Bassist of Tennyson. Works at the same food truck as Denver (the food truck is owned by Stef's older brother). A bassist with incredible execution who is in several bands at once, so he is constantly running from band practice to band practice. He's probably too good to be in Tennyson, but he stays because he believes in Denver's vision.
