RUBBER MATCH ANNOUNCEMENT: I'm drawin' my first comic!!!!
Added 2020-08-25 21:51:20 +0000 UTCAHHH IT'S OFFICIAL! I'm drawing my first comic, RUBBER MATCH, a gay pro-wrestling romance written by the amazing Elizabeth Brei (SWEET LITTLE RESISTANCE, editor of a TON of IDW titles).
Elizabeth wasn't the first person to approach me for comics interiors, but up until her script, I was totally convinced I had no interest in drawing sequentials/interiors. I was fully content to continue on my illustrator-y, occasional cover artist-y route. But Elizabeth's pitch is so incredibly up my alley, I decided I owe it to myself to TRY.
We've only just begun work on it, but I'm so excited to get started. Patrons will get first looks at my progress along the way, starting with these: the full expression explorations I've been doing for our main characters!
Elizabeth wanted TY CURRY to pull inspiration from Seiya Sanada (Great Sanada-era), but didn't have much in mind for SCORPION BUTCH, other than that he should wear a singlet and have long hair he puts up in a bun when not in the ring. I immediately pictured him as a Polynesian guy, that both plays off of but subverts the idea of a big, tough Polynesian wrestler, and I'm so stoked Elizabeth loved it!!
I still have several more characters to design, so stay tuned and wish me luck as I embark on this months-long journey of swinging between elation and "oh god I don't know what I'm doing"!!

Ahhh! Thank you so much! Your comment is exactly my dream response to our project announcement!! I really think Rubber Match is so fun, and the first lead, Ty, has a lot of batboy-personality qualities, so I hope you love it!!

YEP, when she described Scorpion Butch to me, she sent a photo of EVIL's singlet as reference, and I was like, "Hmm.. okay... but what if instead of EVIL.... Shingo...??" And I had a bunch of Shingo photos pulled up to reference Scorpion's body type!!! AND THANK YOU ;A;
